Is Evolution random or non-random

How does science work? And what's all this about quantum mechanics?

You didn't answer my question, Goldilocks. What's the worst thing you have suffered in life?
I don't indulge your misery, but you use everything you can grab to support your misery.

This is how you corrupt questions made in good faith ... Goldilocks.

C'mon, champ. What's your worst? And after that worst thing befell you, were you stigmatized by society? Or did everyone give you a pat on the back and a "good boy" hug.

Poor Walker. Broke a fingernail once and now poo poos people who say "ouch". What a joke. You're a dirt bag, a dirt bag who supports a President who openly committed International terrorism. You really ought to pay for your depravity. When something serious wipes that smile off your face, you'll deserve it more than helpless victims of things out of our control. You can change your allegiances and support good people. I can't un-unhave schizophrenia. Apparently, there's no karma for people like you. So much for the Eastern mythology. You support the biggest shyster in political history, and you're laughing all the way to the bank. Buddhism is a joke just like Christianity. A delusion to make people think that people like you will pay for your callous indifference to morality and ethics.

Gary is the champ of the Miserymeisters.

If you think you can out misery Gary,
well good luck trying that with your miserable friend.

You’re going up against years of practice.
Nobody knows the troubles he’s seen.

Gary has extra special misery. (ESM)

You are right, Walker. You don't know what it's like to have a stigmatizing illness that fundamentally alienates you from society. You live in a charmed world of privilege where International terrorism doesn't bother you because you're not the one being bombed. You're unable to have empathy for victims of suffering. You think Buddhism is a religion about feeling good about yourself and getting to Nirvana. That's all you know about it. You don't know the forces of life that prompted the would-be king Siddhartha to renounce his kingship and go out into the wilderness to find release from his troubles. You are a dilettante.

Gary …

Sing along,

But this time from the bottom of your heart …
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVKKRze ... rt_radio=1

Not from the heart of your miserable bottom.

Gary, summon the joy that you find in mocking people for their beliefs,
and turn that happiness upon your own misery.

Go on, venture into the unknown.

Evolve beyond the shallows of your miserable ego that shapes your perceptions of the world.

Go to your corner, to wallow in your misery.
This thread is another fractualization of philosophy where one might evolve beyond misery.
Not everyone shares being distracted by misery.

To whom?
To anyone who asks or whom I happen to be talking to.
But why? They can't do anything you can't do. And they aren't responsible for what happens to you. So complaining to them makes absolutely no sense.

Are you sure that's the direction of your complaint?
I once had a dear friend who although young, had known a lifetime of pain. Real physical pain that was sometimes less, sometimes more. She was treating the current hospital stay like it was no problem, no complaints, just something to get out of the way. But I knew of her condition, so I asked her, "You don't complain. I think I would." And she told me that she had learned that complaining to people who could do nothing to help her, did nothing but make them feel bad.

In time, the lesson has been reinforced. Those with the most to complain about, complain the least. It's a natural something that happens to people when they wise up, and it transcends culture ... unless the culture rewards it.

Not complaining is something men seem to know instinctively, but for many the culture has successfully rewarded it to the extent that victimhood is now a sort of virtue signaling. Makes a man want to puke if applied to him, if someone tries to coax some complaints.

Pain had pushed my friend into the comfort of kindness ... her's, for others.

Into rationality.

Uh huh.

(It's an explanation of why I agree with your comment, and perhaps some information for miserable folks will sink in.)

If one has everything, and knowledge that it will be lost,
And if another one has only misery, and knowledge that it will be lost,
Who suffers more?

And not only that, but why?

Now, there’s a question worthy of philosophy.
Ever think that thought before?
If not, no charge.
A selfless gift to you.

Shirley, that will generate more electrical activity in the noggin than just a paragraph of belief, supporting why spirituality does not permeate all of creation.

Questions questions questions questions.

How about some answers for a change of pace, and TDS spewing is neither answer nor philosophy.
Even a loser palooka should have a philosophy that amounts to more than Nihilism posing as Agnosticism.

Life has pain in it...for everybody. Some get much more of it than others. But everybody has it.

I've known people who have lived happily in the lowliest of personal circumstances, and even in extreme physical pain. I've known people who've lived through incredible emotional pain, loss, mental illness, and so on. And I've seen people handle it all better, or handle it worse.

You know what the difference always is? Meaning. If what they are experiencing has sufficient meaning, there's almost nothing they can't endure and be happy within. If, on the other hand, they think it's meaningless, then the smallest pain becomes an unbearable incursion on their hoped-for happiness, and resentment boils up and takes over.

So I said to Gary, "Seek meaning: it's how you'll find happiness."

But you know what you get if you seek happiness itself?

Disappointment. And nothing else. Happiness is always a byproduct of meaning. It cannot be found on its own, or by dictating terms to it.

Is that what you think, people in enormous physical pain are "happy"? The mentally ill aren't "thankful" enough for what we have? We should just shut up and suck it up. If people stop complaining, then all the problems of the world will vanish? If you stop complaining about universal health care (aka "socialist" healthcare) will that solve anything? Or is complaining about the only hope many people have for healthcare going to improve their access to healthcare?

Don't be silly, Gary. This is too important a topic for fake misunderstandings, phony grandstanding, or shallow thinking.

I'll say it again.

People who have meaning are often happy, even in difficult times. But people who chase happiness as if it were a separate thing usually end up trying to grasp the wind.

And if I chase meaning. Will I end up "grasping the wind", or will I find the meaning I'm looking for?

You don't chase meaning. That's the difference. You choose to do things that are inherently meaningful, or what you're doing is devoting yourself to things that are not meaningful.

So your next question, Gary, is what do you think the meaning or purpose of your life is, or should be?
