Sure. I would never argue otherwise. Who would? I'm sure most of us realize the world is bigger than us. So far, you are not saying anything that most are unaware of.
But then, why do they live as if they don't believe it?

But why? They can't do anything you can't do. And they aren't responsible for what happens to you. So complaining to them makes absolutely no sense.Gary Childress wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2026 3:34 amTo anyone who asks or whom I happen to be talking to.Immanuel Can wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2026 3:06 amTo whom?Gary Childress wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2026 1:09 am
Because, like anyone else, I don't like getting screwed by the world. So I complain.
Are you sure that's the direction of your complaint?

Telling them I'm fine when I'm not makes even less sense. I'd rather be genuine and say what's on my mind than be phoney to people. Besides, if people don't want to hear me complain, then they are no friends of mine, nor people I would want to be friends with.Immanuel Can wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2026 3:37 amBut why? Really? Wouldn't a good friend point out to you that, by complaining to people who have nothing to do with your problem and can do nothing to help you, you were not helping yourself, but just making yourself more miserable by harping on your challenges instead of your blessings? Wouldn't a real friend want to see you be happy, rather than to maximize your own misery?Gary Childress wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2026 3:39 amTelling them I'm fine when I'm not makes even less sense. Well, if I can't talk to people unless I'm "happy," then I don't know what else to do. I can certainly tell them things I can be grateful for, if that's what they want to hear. And if that's what you want to hear, then I'm grateful for tea. It tastes better than water. What's something you are grateful for?Immanuel Can wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2026 2:18 pmReally? It's not about "talking," Gary. It's about obsessing on your own miseries to people who are not the cause and not the cure. Surely that's a really useless hobby.Gary Childress wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2026 2:26 pmWell, if I can't talk to people unless I'm "happy," then I don't know what else to do.Immanuel Can wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2026 2:18 pmReally? That's a better start, Gary. Now you have just one thing in your life for which you can take a few paltry seconds to feel thankful. A tiny crack of light just opened in the otherwise-unremitting bleakness of your thoughts.I can certainly tell them things I can be grateful for, if that's what they want to hear. And if that's what you want to hear, then I'm grateful for tea. It tastes better than water.
Now do it again. And again.
So many things. Knowing God is number 1, far and away. That's the best thing in all of existence, I do believe. What's something you are grateful for?

A religious airhead, and that is directly from the talking snake.

That’s not how it works with miserable friends.Immanuel Can wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2026 2:18 pm Really? It’s not complicated. Misery loves company because birds of a feather flock together, and snakes of a scale entwine their miseries like the wounded comparing their scars.
Situations are just the vehicle, and one can find misery in most any situation due to human, binary tendencies.
Misery junkies are addicted to miserable memory and adept at justifications for misery. It's an easy out for avoiding introspection, for separating spirituality from the misery, for pleading ignorance and stridently exercising selective outrage … lots of little mind tricks such as ignoring causation and personal involvement in misery designed to keep that misery alive.
For the miserable, the misery of the past leads to present and future misery.
Miserable memories of misery are the rock of reality, the touchstone for the miserable.
Such is the way of the Cling-On power of attachment.
Attachment creates the comfort zone, making even misery into a comfort zone.
And it's so easy to be attached when there is a conceptual totem created by consensus of the miserable to sanctify wallowing in misery.
If you try to deny the miserable their misery, you're going to encounter justifications for misery, even when they don't exist.
You'll encounter false agreement that is made with you, just to silence the relentless logic that contradicts the stupidity of misery justification.
Anything good can serve as a repository for misery, because misery twists apprehension to the point where what's good, is cause for misery.

Ah, a miserable one, eager to self-justify that misery.
The wait is not long for a miserable to appear.

Miserable ignorance believes that the opposite of miserable is happy!Gary Childress wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2026 1:48 pmAnother happy one, with no idea what the worst suffering is. Ignorance is bliss. Have you ever had a chronic and debilitating illness?
Like a child.
The opposite of miserable is the same opposite to victim mentality.
