Alcohol Consumption is allowed only by Non-Muslims in licensed restaurants, bars, clubs, private venues and at home (for residents who have acquired an alcohol licence). It was recently announced that tourists older than 21 years can obtain a free one-month license to use during their stay in Dubai. In order to get their license, tourists must visit an African + Eastern or MMI liquor store with their original passport, fill out a short form and sign an official declaration to state that they are not a UAE resident, and will obey the UAE’s rules and regulations.

They don't do that kind of paperwork in Malaysia, but the principle remains the same: Alcohol is sold only by non-Muslims, only to non-Muslims. As long as you don't try to provide alcohol to a Muslim, nobody cares. Of course, there are Muslims who go to bars with non-Muslims while masquarading as a non-Muslim. There are weird social dynamics associated to these rules.

Yes, I can vouch for that. Expats are all very friendly to each other, the locals are too. I was playing pool a few nights ago - and there were these huge blokes from I think England, and their seating position meant that I occasionally had to insist one of them move out of the way. At first one of them gave me a little "test" - but he was as chilled as fuck - stood up and got right out of the way - in Oz - especially these days, you'd have to punch the dudes lights out to get your shot..

Everyone in the West lives in a rat race - owned by banks and the "system" to their mortgage and all the other expenses. But that's also true of the locals, their money goes nowhere here, my money in Oz goes nowhere (by that I mean - is not worth much)

My money is actually worth something here in Filo - it travels a lot further - I tell the locals - we are in almost the same boat. The Oz dollar is worth peanuts atm - but I explain to the locals I've met - we (foreign) are not rich, our money in your country has more value.

Oh dear, this comes up every so often. It's from a gross misreading of the text. Mind that is easy to do, as the language of Talmud is often compressed, intended to require study to read.

Talmud is essentially training for judges.There is discussion about rape and the sages decide that the rape of a girl under three cannot be rape. PAY ATTENTION (and don't take that decision out of context). They are deciding that under three the correct charge would have to be mayhem, intentional maiming, a more serious charge than rape. << I think their example was "like blinding by sticking a finger in the eye" >> It is unclear (doesn't) come up whether three was the cut off age. These discussions usually start with a supposed actual case like "Reb So-and-so ruled in a case of a three year old girl that it was not rape" and they discuss WHY he might have rued that way.
