More accurately it really is “something new”. An important player — a vice-president and a man likely to become a presidential candidate — who is becoming familiar with anti-liberal or counter-liberal political theory. It is rather momentous really.FlashDangerpants wrote: ↑Tue Mar 18, 2025 1:29 pm A vacuum was created. It has been filled by a bunch of tech-bros who don't care about tantrums because they throw them too. They have an ideology and some half-smart people to help them write it down. You'll be running some sort of special about Deneen, Yarvin and Girard one day.
This isn't really anything new, there's always a set of well-heeled blue sky thinker types to attempt a takeover whenever the drift of popular sentiment supports the possibility of radical change.
What we are witnessing now — chaos, upset, both foregrounded and also behind-the-scenes machinations of a consequential order — is unlike any other moment in US history that I am aware of. Obviously, a crisis-point in US history. And at a moment in world history rife with all sorts of dangers.
I am glad (I say ironically) that you, Phyllo, Rick and others believe you have it all figured out and can pronounce judgments about what is happening, why, and what it means and portends. Your reactions are both typical and understandable as well.
Myself, I am suspicious of mere reaction. And it is a mood that is also exploited by media-systems. I do not have the clarity at this point to pronounce judgments quite so easily. I am unsure what “authoritative opinion” does have that clarity.
