That's not really gaslighting, he (she) tries to force you to realize the "absolute truth", and the tricks he uses and mistakes he makes along the way don't matter.
If we change the words 'force' and 'tricks' and 'mistakes' what you just expressed might fit with his own views. The article I linked to talks about some gaslighters not knowing what they are doing. Sometimes they are called self-deceiving gaslighters. To me the moment someone regularly denies reality through a variety of devices AND presents negative views of you (and others) supported by doing this, they are gaslighting.

I think it can be a valid definition that one must be consciously trying to manipulate people and mess with their minds. Given that I don't always know what is really going on in the other person's mind and in a sense it doesn't matter - what I call gaslighting is happening - I include people who may not be aware of what they are doing. I think that's also valid. But in discussion with you, hey, I can work with your definition and avoid it. But in general the use in psychology and every day life seems to include both kinds of patterns. And, of course, there can be mixtures of awareness. Some awareness, some degree of fooling oneself. For non-psychopaths it's pretty uncomfortable to notice what one is doingt, unless you have some kind of justification for trying to break someone else down.
Yeah but Age isn't denying reality, he/she thinks we are denying reality.
Those aren't mutually exclusive. Plus, I don't think his view is the default.
Further his view of reality isn't really the focus of his gaslighting. Much of his gaslighting has to do with what he does in interactions with others and what he claims they are doing interpersonally. All his mindreading, denials, etc.

In any case, I would guess he doesn't think he is gaslighting.
He might think it's fair tactics given his incredible knowledge. He might not. I lean towards him not being able to look at what he is doing, so not knowing about it.

But I don't care if he is conscious of it. He is likely repeatedly ignoring discomfort and flickers of awareness that something is going on he doesn't want to look at. The edges of cognitive dissonance. He's responsible for that. It takes word for someone unconscious to stay unconscious when there are constant clues. That holds for all of us.

Umm but absolutely everything he writes is because of his experience of reality? I don't think it's a good idea to downplay the level of his insanity by calling it gaslighting.

I'm not saying everything he does is gaslighting, just that he's gaslighting.
I once had a perfectly lovely conversation with a homeless woman who thought there was a giant conspiracy to kill a B-movie star in the 40s. She was kind, and asked me nice questions about me. She answered questions about her life - I'd come in to late on a flight for the interstate bus I needed so I was just walking around in a city in the middle of the night. We walked together. She had a number of delusions and seemed to be referring to hallucinations also. But she didn't gaslight a bit. She seemed relieved that I didn't make a fuss about her theories and she was a nice coversation partner. She made her pitch about the star. I thought it and some of her other beliefs were very unlikely and said so. She didn't start telling me about me and my supposed problems. It was all rather pleasant, for both of us, I think. She was a nice lady and I hope she managed to get a home later.¨

As far as Age being insane, I have no idea. Depends on what he can manage to do. Insanity, to me, goes beyond the content of beliefs and means hygeine, getting one's own food, work, relationships are all severely damaged or taken care of at all. He may be. I don't know.

But regardless you can be very sane and gaslight. Nuts and gaslight. They are two different types of issue.

Ok we seem to be talking two very different languages, I was talking about the experienced reality itself, not merely the content of beliefs.

But there are no interpersonal dynamics in Age's reality. That's just an illusion our mind creates by filling in gaps, based on its experince with the other 99.9% of humans whose reality does have interpersonal dynamics.

I made the same point about the same poster and got jumped on for it. What a surprise

Sometimes I would get a whole row of notifications (at least ten) from him. It rather defeats the purpose of the 'ignore' function.
And no, there is nothing you can do about it. 'Age' enjoys tormenting his 'foes' in this way. Be prepared for A LOT of red dot notifications from now on.

Bang on.
I wonder if this one has the courage and/or ability to provide ABSOLUTELY ANY thing, which could back up and support what it is CLAIMING and, again, JUST ALLUDING to, here, and whether it would.

'We' will just have to wait, to see.

Although this one may have had the first part here Right, it ABSOLUTELY spoke and wrote an UNTRUTH in the second part.

Which if it did KNOW was untrue, and which it SHOULD of, if it had been LISTENING and FOLLOWING here, then what this one has just provide 'us' here with is a prime example of, its own definition of, 'gaslighting'.

It was an excellent movie. The villain nearly drove his wife unsane by doing things like moving stuff around so she would question her own memories and perception of reality. It's actually quite easy to drive someone mad if a person is evil and sadistic enough to want to do it.

JUST MAYBE this one's own thoughts and perceptions of 'Reality', Itself, needed to be questioned and challenged, so that it could SEE that its OWN view of things is NOT as right, true, accurate, and correct as it would like and hope them to be.

I have just POINTED OUT and SHOWN where and when this one has been Wrong, and Incorrect. And, this one, obviously, just does not like this

Men are famous for doing it to their wives when it's really obvious to the wife that they are having an affair. They just deny deny deny and call their wife 'crazy' and 'a psycho' etc. etc.
And, if 'I' was not on this one's 'ignore list' I would ask this one if this has absolutely any thing at all to do with 'me', and if yes, then what is 'that', exactly.

Also, the Fact this one HATES "men", (which is TOTALLY UNDERSTANDABLE, especially considering what it has gone through and had to endure, exactly), as much as some of the "men" obviously HATE "women". But, generalizing as much as this one does, and like this one does, does not help this one to appear has to having the Right and Correct thoughts and perceptions

I think there can be unconscious gaslighting. But in any case 1) continuously expressing beliefs about many of us, in post after post, then saying he does not have beliefs. Once calling his beliefs 'views'. LOL.
Once again, 'we' have been presented with another prime example of one expressing complete UNTRUTHS, here.

First untruth, I have NEVER EVER expressed beliefs about you human beings, let alone continuously doing so.

Second untruth, I have BEVER EVER said nor wrote the claim this one is making in its second sentence above here..

So, is this one 'gaslighting' here, under "atla's" definition of 'gaslighting' anyway?
Iwannaplato wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 6:22 am 2) Expressing his beliefs in absolute terms, when he must know they are not absolute: "you never do X.....'When he has experienced me doing X.'
Once again, until you speak and write the Truth, you will NEVER get to It.

Also, if this one was not such a Truly COWARD of an individual, then it would have presented the ACTUAL example, instead of just ALLUDING TO some thing, which may or may not even exist at all.

This is meant to be a 'philosophy forum', but the way some of these people here present their views, arguments, and/or claims here, one would not be mistaken for thinking that it is not.
Iwannaplato wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 6:22 am 3) Denying he ever said X. You find a quote where he said X. And he maintains his denial.
And, ONCE MORE this one TALKS ABOUT others, while making CLAIMS ABOUT them, without providing one shred of evidence, let alone ANY actual proof, for its CLAIM.

What a joke this one is SHOWING and REVEALING it REALLY IS.

"he" says some thing, but when shown the opposite is actually true, "he", still, denies it
Iwannaplato wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 6:22 am 4) Denying that he ever gets irritated, when it's obvious in the way he changes his relation to people. I've seen this happen with you a number of times.
WHY are you speaking ABOUT 'me' in one sentence, but in the very next sentence you are speaking TO 'me'?

Or, where you saying and claiming that "atla" has done this a number of times.

And, LOL, this one, still, actually BELIEVES that it KNOWS the very feeling/emotions within 'another', when the absolutely ONLY thing that it has to 'go on' are the printed words on a screen in front of it.

Talk about ABSOLUTE DELUSION BELIEVING, in the extreme.
Iwannaplato wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 6:22 am 5) How about calling atophi (sp) a pedophile and when the latter gets irritated, Age tells him he is naive or some other judgment becaues the word originally meant a lover of children.
Wrong again, but do not let this stop you from carrying on here "iwannaplato".
Iwannaplato wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 6:22 am 6) Judging people (often with the phrase like 'at the time this is being written' and then when it is pointed out that he has many judgments of people, he denies it.
LOL OBVIOUSLY this one has NOT HEARD NOR LISTENED TO what I have actually SAID, and wrote, here
Iwannaplato wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 6:22 am There are many more instances and types of gaslighting activities on his part. As I said to him once, I don't know if he is conscious that he is gaslighting, but he is gaslighting.
Are you AWARE that you have been 'gaslighting' here "iwannaplato".

If you are conscious of this, or not, you are 'gaslighting'.

If you keep ignoring his posts and do not respond to him, chances are his responses will get less. At least, that happened with me.
LOL How more OBVIOUS could this get.

That this one actually BELIEVED that it needed to say this shows and reveals just how DELUDED it REALLY IS
Iwannaplato wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 6:28 am Unfortunately a thread like this might lead to an increase in attention for a while, but in the long run, I think it will get less.
Again, these ones here just cannot STOP "themselves" from 'wanting to' talk ABOUT 'me'.

And yet they 'act' surprised that I might or would respond in ANOTHER thread ABOUT 'me'.
Iwannaplato wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 6:28 am It would be lovely if we didn't get notifications. I asked him to stop several times, he refused to stop, but with the lack of attention from me, he stopped on his own.
LOL GO FIGURE. If one just STOPS responding to another, 'the other' STOPS responding BACK.

Who would have thought that this would happen and occur?

Also, LOL, this one, supposedly, asked me 'several times' to stop responding to it, but yet , still, goes on and on and on talking ABOUT 'me'.

For the not so ABSOLUTELY STUPID, if one, really, does not want 'another' responding to 'the former's words' and claims, then, OBVIOUSLY, just STOP talking ABOUT 'the other' and just STOP making False, Wrong, Inaccurate, and/or Incorrect claims ABOUT them.

Now, how much SIMPLER, EASIER, and OBVIOUS could this actually get?
Iwannaplato wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 6:28 am Being bothered by him, giving him a chance to judge what you wrote to him, giving him a chance to have an audience for his 'superiority and deep insight'....those are attractive. LOL

This one has, once again, proved irrefutably that it can give out 'advice' but can NOT follow 'its own advice', ONCE MORE.

In fact, it looks like this one has not even realized that it has just given me another chance to REFUTE it's own False and Wrong wording, and claims, ONCE MORE.
