Besides, woke is relative. If you think it should be legal to be in a homosexual relationship, some people consider you woke. You consider me woke, but people who I consider woke often consider me borderline right-wing. Woke means something different to everybody.
What, in the context of these Olympic events, am I woke about?

The gymnast routine rules clearly allow for a team to contest a scoring. They believed that a certain part of her routine was under-scored, so they used the procedures allowed to her - and allowed to the Romanian, btw, not special rules just for Americans - and the judges agreed that they underscored her routine. Why do you take that so personally?accelafine wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2024 10:09 am She's a useless fat dumpling who stole the Romanian's medal with her whiny American bullshit and big, fat financial backing!

That's right, I haven't seen it, I've read about it. If you think seeing it would change my mind, I, as an intellectually honest and open person who is sometimes wrong, will willingly watch the video you think demonstrates your case, and perhaps it will change my mind.accelafine wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2024 10:40 am

So, when met with a person who is willing to hear your points and see your evidence, instead of making points and showing evidence, your first instinct is an outburst of anger and insults.accelafine wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2024 10:50 amWhat the fuck would you know about artistic expression? Yes, on a philosophy forum it's appropriate, when someone shares their thoughts, for another person to ask "why do you think that?" Being open to seeing why someone thinks something is a fundamental part of a real philosophers' process. That's why I'd like to see the video you think demonstrates your point, dumb ... whatever you are.accelafine wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2024 4:39 pmAre you, dumb American?Flannel Jesus wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2024 10:53 amSo, when met with a person who is willing to hear your points and see your evidence, instead of making points and showing evidence, your first instinct is an outburst of anger and insults.accelafine wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2024 10:50 am

Re: The Olympics
I don't know what you are trying to say. You said something about a video, I would like to see the video, that isn't an argument at all, it's a request. You haven't made an argument, you've made a claim - posting the video might be a start to your argument, if you have one, but with no video there's no argument and therefore no context for a counter argument from me. I need to know your argument for what you believe before I could determine if I agree with it or would like to counter it.accelafine wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2024 4:59 pm You've been arguing with me ever since I posted about your tacky fat lump of an American gymnast.

For anyone actually interested in this issue, here's a New Yorker article (those who merely want to rant need not bother with it).

What I find interesting about this boxing thing is, the people who you would normally see coming out insisting gender is incredibly simple are now coming out saying, this boxer shouldn't box women because gender is actually a little complex.Alexiev wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 3:38 pm For anyone actually interested in this issue, here's a New Yorker article (those who merely want to rant need not bother with it).

If gender is simple, then these boxers were born with vaginas and they're boxing other people with vaginas - a simplistic understanding of gender means there's no controversy at all, let them box. It's only debatable when we acknowledge gender is more complex than that.
