I can't "chill", AJ not with jumping spiders coming to get me. Either come post in the Ukraine thread so we can figure out what's going on and how to resolve it without any more horror or bloodshed or leave me to my fate if that is your wish.

Because he's had enough of NATO scooping up one country after another and the CIA initiating the 2014 coup in Ukraine.
When Gorbachev brought about Glasnost and Perestroika he dismantled the Warsaw Pact, THis was the world's greatest chance at lasting peace.
Sadly NATO continued to grow and the result of this expansion made the Gorbachev efforts look weak in the face of passive aggression by the west, so we had the rise of less friendly leaders such as Putin.
That makes some sense. However, war is not going to solve anything in the way it ought to be solved. Is there no way to resolve differences without invading or sending armies? Is that the only way things can be resolved?
I agree - but then I do not live in Russia, and cannot share their psychology of a fortress state having lost 24 million people at the hands of Western powers in WW2; and suffered civil war and revolution as a result of WW1.

From the perspective of the US citizen I imagine it would be very difficult for you to understand. And whilst your own military has been engaged in conflicts causing more deaths than any other country since WW2, I imagine that Russia feels rather under the US's continual threat.
It's about imagining a perspective.
Sculptor in case you have gone blind or have adopted selective hearing this war talk has moved to the UKRAINE CRISIS thread, don’t miss out. It’s a topic you are involved in right now, but it had to move back to its original property just in case it’s normal residency was in danger of taking on illegal squatters.

“Explicitly stated” perhaps, but all of our varying positions are often obscure to those oriented differently. Frankly, but respectfully,
I do not believe that I grasp your essential and core predicates. It would be necessary to spend real time with someone, over days and even weeks, in a cordial atmosphere, to really be able to understand.
As for Evola, I consider him the scumbag of all metaphysicians...if he actually ever was one. If this is what you accept as metaphysics then I have to say that even my "opinion" of its actual potential is much higher than yours and would annul every vestige of metaphysics rather than accept any of his puerile, medieval, superstitious nonsense. He reminds me more of Aleister Crowley than any true believer in metaphysics.
I might be able to understand what you say that — I intuit why just as a result of the exclamation — but you’d have to spell it out more.

But it is not hard for me to imagine what you refer to. I’ve had similar thoughts.
…his puerile, medieval, superstitious nonsense
Such a glossary condemnation! I would only mention, respectfully of course, that such glossary condemnations of [fill the blank] are common but too easy.
What you say is true and excessively common on philosophy forums where mere opinion, more often than not, overrides the factual, the unexamined.

But in this case the facts derive from Evola himself and not simply an easy condemnation from me. Whether I believe in any kind of metaphysic or not - and there is a type I give credence to - metaphysics has its masters among which Evola is nothing more than a thorough, and I would add, disgusting, deviant perversion of...an Aleister Crowley caricature pretending he's a philosopher when, in fact, he reeks more of banality incorporated.

I am taking your assertion under examination.

What type of metaphysics do you give credence to? Who?

And can you cite something specific in Evola that supports your assertion?

Maybe the idea that war makes "heroes" or is "heroic" would be a starter? But what do I know? You're welcome to continue the discussion in the Ukraine thread with me. I suggest both of you move it there. I won't kick you out, I promise.

Alan Watts, who for a time lived in an old grounded ferry at Gate 6-1/2 (that ran between Sausalito and San Francisco before the Golden Gate Bridge was built) was greatly admired by my parents. Here he is talking about existence.

I am considering an attempt at becoming human. Please, don’t mess with my process.

If you did, you wouldn't be asking me for specifics in support of my "assertions". Evola's writings and thoughts are its true testament. It's up to your personal proclivities to categorize Evola, and suchlike, in any manner you wish. There are those who have great regard for him; but there are also mucho millions who have a high regard for Trump, a consummate semi-literate liar and deceiver, half in love with heroic dictators, who, in his actions and speeches comes across as half insane.

...no accounting for taste even by the intelligentsia!

All she asked was that this thread be dedicated to what she wants to dicuss. She didn't use any foul language toward you. I've set up a thread in the politics forum. You can be as abrasive or anything else that you want. I won't kick anyone out for any reason (or ask anyone to leave). I won't even kick anyone out for straying "off topic." However, I would think the truth about the situation in Ukraine is of the most supreme importance to humanity right now. And we must find a way around it.

Opoerative word: "was"

We're all going to remember that word in the Ukraine thread and talk about the right way forward.

I can't believe you need me to provide examples of Evola's repugnant views having to wonder how it overlaps with philosophy. Obviously you've read him to some extent and find them somewhat insightful especially as regards metaphysics. For me, he's an instantiation of a type of personality not only superfluous but disposable in the extreme.

However, there's nothing to stop you from believing whatever you like.

Never, ever give in to a woman’s commands. Soon you’ll be wearing an apron and sitting down to pee, Gary.

No, NO! Do not go down that road. Must I post video memes from The Godfather to get through to you?!?

Frankly I am not sure what specifically you refer to. Surely a quoted paragraph is not that difficult?
