But these people believe that what they disapprove of is set in stone. It isn't their role to have an opinion, their purpose is to enforce God's opinion. And God's opinion is whatever the crazy man in the pulpit, waving the Bible about, says it is.uwot wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 12:42 pm Well, as I keep saying, people will use their reason to develop their stories. So you start with a premise - god exists, for example, add a few things on your wish list, eternal life perhaps, persecution of people whose habits you disapprove of, or it might be love and empathy for all humankind. Whatever, anyone who creates a god does so in their own image and they can give you any number of reasons why they are right.
My attitude, since early adulthood, towards homosexuality has gone from not really knowing anything about it but being amused by it, to learning more and being revolted by it, to being influenced by changing social attitudes towards it and beginning to tolerate it, and finally to completely accepting it. That is because I consider myself free to question my attitudes and opinions, and I have revised them, rather than having to wait until God revises his.
This is why I condemn religion, you can't reason with it.

That last paragraph is rather similar my own comprehension. Indeed it wasn't until one of my best mates told me about his homosexual brother, how his dad dealt with him, and how close he was to suicide that I totally changed my opinion. Also, I cannot stand the "gay" parades like the Sydney Mardi-Gras - ok, you're 'gay' doesn't mean we all need to see hairy blokes wearing barely anything parading around city streets ffs. In fact, my mates homo brother is of the same opinion - it disgusts him.
The US evangelist nutjobs that are all anti-homsexuality are such disgusting bigots, that have barely read a thing of the bible. The bible has got almost sweet FA to say about it, and that's just pretty the Jews writing some crap in the OT (not Christ's commentary - which is ALL Christianity should have any basis on)

So I've heard, but I understand there is a possibility of reincarnation.
No, I'm not keen on the throwing your arms about and being fabulous kind of gay exhibitionism, but that's just a matter of taste. I don't disapprove of it, or anything. On the other hand, there are types of gay humour that I find very entertaining. I quite often wish I had a funny, gay friend. Also, I cannot stand the "gay" parades like the Sydney Mardi-Gras

He is totally right. Anyone that is stupid enough to accept religious doctrine to the depth of not challenging it, is NOT open to reason.
EVERYTHING should be challenged with reason, even if it was a GOD that gave us an intelligent mind to challenge GOD supposed doctrines in their own right.
Other_wise we are not worthy of God or just pure products of a random universe.

Book banning has been pretty bipartisan over time and I am pretty sure all three have been attacked by both sides and removed from various regions, libraries, schools. God knows the religious right can be offended by pretty much anything. If the Bible wasn't their Bible, the sex, violence, incest and aspersions cast upon God would likely get it banned.

When one learns the definition of 'sin', and what that word was actually referring to, then what True meaning of that message IS makes PERFECT SENSE.uwot wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 10:40 amThe thing that gets me is that the central message of christianity is that someone else will pay for your sins. Until then 'you', adult human beings, will continue on MISSING THE MARK, as shown above, and throughout millennia.
