I am not sure what you mean here. Are you agreeing? The first example is fairly harmless except perhaps at dinner parties or for the collector's family if they want to talk about it and don't notice others' lack of interest. The latter type of person might be just peachy if they are interesting, speak well and listen also. Or they could be social monsters.
Passion adds intensity, of some kind. So to me it depends on what they are intense about and then also how the passion manifests. If it manifests in shrieking and hitting people, then the particular thing they are passionate about probably can't eliminate the problems. Unless they are passionate about protecting their family and are screaming at and hitting someone who broke into their daughter's room to rape her.
This is me digging at the potential blanket condemnation of passion.
