Would that include the average schmo who doesn't even bother to think whether there's any meaning to life and just gets on with it?

The average schmo thinks about meaning. There's no such thing as a person who isn't interested in meaning ('cept for the true nihilists who are sociopaths).

Now, make sumthin' of that...if you can.
...as for sociopaths, aren't you one of those who refuse the covid jab, happy to pass it on to anyone in proximity in case YOU get it?

As for meaning! What means meaning? The average schmo usually gives up on thinking about something he can never resolve. The average schmo usually knows what he wants and that has meaning for him...which is true for just about anybody, average or not.

Now, make sumthin' of that...if you can.

If that were true, this place wouldn't exist. All we average schmoes do here is fight about shit none of us will never have definitive answers for.

Your turn.

I imagine there was some thinkin' on that meaning, and that there is an on-goin' interest in that meaning.

This place and places like it exist because it's fun. Most people are here for entertainment or simply to communicate. Philosophy forums are nothing more than interminable mental soap operas. There are exceptions, but I would venture a guess that most of the people here usually have plenty of time on their hands due to age or some other reason. Consider yourself and all the dumb cartoons you keep showing. You wouldn't be doing it if it weren't straight-out entertaining for you.

Sure. We love to tussle...about and over philosophies...not sports, not celebs, not cars...philosophies which are nuthin' but meanings.

I double-win.

What has meaning for the average schmo as you call him are the usual material things in life and how to get it. Here he's fairly certain that a return on investment is probable, which means a lot to him. All other forms of meaning operate more as side-effects which are often dependent on traditions that cause one to conform but rarely think.

When has anyone ever come up with a meaning which means anything? If you don't know ask your friend and guru IC. I know he means a lot to you!

Meaning on philosophy forums are simply playthings, chess pieces whose operation don't correspond to any rules.

The upshot...meaning means nothing!

...or differently expressed...

why search for meaning never to be known
meaning has no meaning unless it's shown.

...what meaning for example is created or established in all your stupid cartoons? But you do enjoy doing it. So much for meaning and all its profound implications!

It's easy to claim a win if you haven't even started playing the game; yet you accuse me of a faux-position! Should I tell you what you can do with your faux Triple-win trophy!

RCSaunders wrote: Fri Jul 16, 2021 3:17 pmAs for suffering, there are many ways to die painlessly.
Is that true? From what I've read the only way to die painlessly, meaning without trauma, is to die in one's sleep. Of course, some ways are less painful than others, but none are qualified to be without pain of some sort. The only other way I know is euthanasia, but that requires medical assistance. So, as a matter of interest, what are some of the ways to die painlessly committed as a thoroughly private event?
Oh, my, there are so many. These immediately come to mind:

Probably the most common and well known is carbon monoxide, which causes no pain or discomfort at all. One who breaths enough carbon monoxide simply goes peacefully asleep--permanently. It is not as commonly used today, now that it is not piped into people's homes. It' is so innocuous it is sometimes called a, "silent killer," and whole families have died from it without ever suspecting they were being poisoned.

Barbiturates are probably the next most commonly used painless method of death, by intentional over-dose of course. One just goes to sleep, peacefully, and never wakes up. (There is no antidote for barbiturate poisoning.)

An old but reliable one is chloral hydrate, sometime just called chloral, a sedative, originally used as an anesthetic, and famous as a, "Mickey Finn." Overdose produces a relaxed deadly sleep.

All opiods over-doses can produce painless death, including: Opium. Morphine, Heroin, Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Demerol, and Fentanyl.

Any anesthetic overdose can produce painless death, like chloroform, ether, nitrous oxide, and more modern isoflurane, desflurane, and sevoflurane.

There are others you can find if you want to do the research. These happen to be one's I'm familiar with.

Well said D

The need to win is the trait of a loser. This winning mentality implies there has to be a loser in order for them to win. Can you imagine what it must feel like to be a loser. For every winner, someone has to lose, winners can only make losers. Some people are just too stupid and dumb to understand their own stupidity, so they project it onto other people as if it was theirs.

The need to win is an intense fear of it's polar opposite, it's the worst kind of phobia to admit to yourself you are a loser. Winning mentality is a common trait among the dumb, ignorant, and unintelligent.. which probably makes up around say 99.99999% of human population, who haven't really evolved beyond and above bug planet mentality, hence it's popularity.

When someone says they are the winner, they've already lost the point of debate and argument. Some of us are lucky enough to rise above bug planet mentality.

I've already switched off the air-supply to this narc.
The narc uses the insideous tactic of posting deliberate inflammatory content, and then makes you feel bad just for reacting. It's disgusting.

The narc smuggly gloated how he wanted to put me on his ignore list, but then totally ignored the idea, then continued in desperation to make a loser of me in fear of his own phobias. To ignore someone just means you are running away from something that strikes a nerve with you.

Thanks D

Oh, my, there are so many. These immediately come to mind:
Oh my ,oh my...you are barking up the wrong tree of life...coming up with ways to make killing yourself as painless as possible.. is not the point of this disccusion ..this discussion has nothing to do with the insane act of deliberate suicide.

Imagine being born into a world you never chose, or consented to....a world full of pain and suffering, and your only way out of this mess was to cause more pain and suffering by killing yourself in the most painless way you can think of so as to avoid the horror and fear of what it would feel like to know you are deliberately ending your life . It's like saying..oh it's fine, if I don't like being alive, I can always kill myself, no problem. That'll fix everything. Problem solved.

Why, why would we want to impose a scenario like that on ourselves and others in the first place. We do this everytime we procreate. So are we just supposed to think it's ok, and that it is our right to impose a life on the unborn, knowing what we already know about life. Is it ok to drag others into the chaos, just because we have decided that life is worth living. In knowledge we know how babies are created, and so we know how to avoid making them, we know how to avoid making more of what we know.

Animals on the other hand instinctively want to mate with each other, but they not doing it because they want children. The sexual instinct is just a crude mindless biological reflexive urge, it's a responsive biological impulse programmed by nature itself, which is composed of mindless dna replicating molecules.

The animal doesn't mate with it's partner because it wants to have a baby, it does not say to it's potential mate, hey sweetcheeks, how about it, lets say we get together and make a baby tonight. That knowledge only exists in the human mind.

The hard truth is...for the most part, that most humans deny, or turn a blind eye to, is that we humans lay our eggs in absolute shite. It's a mess we have self inflicted upon ourselves with our knowledge...only a fool ignores the truth that life for sentience feeling things is a cruel and very crude event. And we deliberately lay our eggs in this chaos, and then we convince ourselves that we think that's ok...and then we convince ourselves further by expecting the (unborn born) to be ok with that?

Well what if they are not ok with cleaning up the mess others have made, what if they are really really angry about that. Does that make that angry person a bad person, like the narcs believe. Like the narcs also believe that people who dare to think for themselves are in need of some balancing medication just because they are not afraid to say out loud what other people are afraid to do, or admit to.

Then the narc says...oh that person who thinks for them self is just a crazy person, they're just miserable and depressed, because I'm having a really good time, and enjoying life, so I would know that about them.

The truth is ...human beings really do not like each other...they cannot stand each other, they only care for their own comfort and pleasure...which includes making other people without their consent. It's an addiction to cannibalism and molestation.

...wake up and smell the coffee. Or stay in denial of cold hard truth and facts.
