Philosophers are rich?
Do you know how to get a philosopher off your porch?
Pay for the pizza.
I have a degree in philosophy and trust me, it was my other degrees that make my living.

Re: philosophers agree on anything?
However, I have considered starting a new age cult. Those guys are rich and have obedient followers. That might be nice!
Throw in a few syllogisms and people will believe anything!
But damn! There is that pesky morality. I am 57 and cognizant of my mortality. I want my tombstone to say, "what are you looking at" not " he died with the most toys". I have enough toys (boat snowmobile etc) and owning a fabrige egg never appealed to me.

Apparently philosophers agree a lot more than we would intuitively think:

There are some problems here. Obviously reality isn't determined by voting but even if it were the fact remains it would be very difficult to show that the current estimation of reality is dependent on and derived from earlier estimations rather than evolving conditions.Risto wrote:Apparently philosophers agree a lot more than we would intuitively think:

Until we speak the same language, I believe, true progress will be impossible. This hardly means that philosophy has no value because philosophy is everything and philosophers are the individuals most likely to arrive at new insights. We simply have little choice but give thought to these questions and try to learn new perspectives from other thinkers both past and present.
I would tend to agree that many of the keenest insights have been within the last century so in a sense I actually do believe there is some level of progress. But individual results will still vary.
Our assumptions are "confused" right along with our language, and assumptions define conclusions. We can't see it because we think in language.

That site seemed to say that there is nothing all academically validated philosophers agree on.
