And guess what, we don't want your stupid CNN anti-gun nut Piers Morgan here in the USA, a criminal phone hacker with that British tabloid, who doesn't know anything about America or the U.S. Constitution!!!
That's the main trouble with the US - you do the talk but don't do the walk concerning FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
In the USA the one that shouts the loudest and has the biggest gun gets to do what he wants.
Morgan is only repeating the majority view, and has the courage to say so, where most Americans are too scared to speak out in your tyranny - even the President.

You are the dumbest person on Earth, having the audacity to challenge Bob the Baptist on a point of fact!

Here in the U.S., you can name your kid almost anything, but that's not the case everywhere in the world. Let's take a look at some countries with pretty strict or otherwise fascinating baby-naming laws.

1. Germany
In Germany, you must be able to tell the gender of the child by the first name, and the name chosen must not be negatively affect the well being of the child. Also, you can not use last names or the names of objects or products as first names. Whether or not your chosen name will be accepted is up to the office of vital statistics, the Standesamt, in the area in which the child was born. If the office rejects your proposed baby name, you may appeal the decision. But if you lose, you'll have to think of a different name. Each time you submit a name you pay a fee, so it can get costly. When evaluating names, the Standesamt refers to a book which translates to "the international manual of the first names," and they also consult foreign embassies for assistance with non-German names. Because of the hassle parents have to go through to name their children, many opt for traditional names such as Maximilian, Alexander, Marie, and Sophie.
Rejected names: Matti was rejected for a boy because it didn't indicate gender.

On a point of fact, Bob the Baptist, how many people have you baptised?

That's just a name, you know, as in precursor of the Second Coming of Christ, whose name is Tor (from the introduction to "The Ouzo Prophecy" at http://church-of-ouzo.com/pdf/ouzo-prophecy.pdf). Baptisms are just superstitious scams perpetrated by organized religions.

You aren't an American, never were an American, and never will be an American. What you are is a fool, and a total fool at that, who doesn't even have the balls to admit he was wrong about Germany!

'ghetto' names can create bureaucratic difficulties for those who have them

if someone has one document that has their first name as muhammad, and another document that lists it as mohammed, anyone with half a brain knows it is the same name

but if you have one document that lists your name as 'ryshanda' and another that lists your name as 'ryshandra' how would you know if they are variants on the same name or different names

it does not help that some parents give very similar ghetto names to siblings

Actually having a certain amount of ambiguity in identity can be an advantage

I don't see how your objection to having similar "ghetto names", is any different from the way kids used to be called Shawn, Sean, Matthew, mathew, mark, luke and John??

Again, the whole point of this thread is not about the pros and cons of what parents name their children, it's about keeping the government (and I might add, mainly European governments) from sticking its damn nose into people's private lives (yes, I realize that socialists like Chaz will never get this simple concept through their diminutive brains because they think government can do no wrong, and is therefore entitled to being sucked up to 24/7).

I'm no Tea Party person, but doesn't the Bob have a point here? WTF, governments telling people what to name their kids, if that's not going too far, what is?

True story, I was named after a pack of Philip Morris cigarettes lying around the hospital room on the day I was born. Ok, that's kinda embarrassing I must agree, but do you really want FBI swat teams dropping from helicopters when people do dumb stuff like that?

Most of the people on Earth are here because somebody did something dumb, like get pregnant by mistake. Shouldn't we work on that one first?

Damn, and I coulda been the Marlboro Man. So close! Rats!

As is often the case, it isn't clear quite what Bob's point is, but if he thinks that any European government tell people what to name their children, he is mistaken.

Some European governments go further than others in telling parents about names they cannot give their children, but that isn't the same thing. Is that also going to far? Well, the German people don't seem to think so.

Why are governments involved in this at all?

Should the government regulate nicknames too?

How about the names of our pets?

Where does it end?
