Any Religion that Teaches Faith is a Virtue is Evil
The fact that such religions as Christianity, Islam, Orthodox Judaism have no evidence to support their claims, results in this bizarre idea that faith is a virtue. As if someone who believes in something without evidence should be looked upon as wise and moral? It's even worse. The faithful brag about their willingness to not only believe in things without evidence, but to believe in things despite evidence to the contrary. We know, for example, that evolution is a fact; yet, many faithful would rewrite evolution out of our science books and replace it with some "intelligent design" pseudoscience.
These religious people have chosen to throw their ability to reason on the chopping block, which is evil enough, but they often insist others do so as well. They invade our lives with such nonsense as Bible prophecy, that we now run the danger of electing a rube into high-office who will consider it to be a divine duty to start a nuclear holocaust. We are forbidden to engage in certain medical research because it may offend the sensibilities of these "virtuous" people, which causes a great deal of suffering. The first heart transplant was done with a baboon heart, and the young girl rejected the foreign tissue. When the doctor was asked why he didn't use a chimp heart instead, because a chimp is a closer relation to humans, which would have made the rejection of the heart less likely, the doctor responded with the statement that "evolution was just a theory." Maybe had the surgeon not been so ignorant, the young girl may have survived.
There is no way to live in a civilized world where a significant percentage of the population believes faith is a virtue. It undermines all serious efforts to discover the truth about the world around us. It increases the likelihood of evil political movements, as ignorance is fascism becomes a truism throughout history. Any religion that teaches faith as a virtue should be shunned by any rational person. Faith is not a virtue; it is an evil that has wrecked enough havoc on the world. In the 21st century, for the human race to survive, such silliness can no longer be tolerated.

I agree evolution should be banned in the USA and creationism taught to children as fact. It is a unique cultural heritage of the USA and needs protecting. This view has been lost in the rest of the world and the US is the last place it exists. Just as we protect all native people's traditions around the world, we need to preserve this one too. Maybe the UN could designate the USA a Creationism Reserve, give some funding to help protect it and there could cultural tourism trips to the US similar to the ones to the Brazilian rainforest or Asian Hill Tribe villages.ForgedinHell wrote:We know, for example, that evolution is a fact; yet, many faithful would rewrite evolution out of our science books and replace it with some "intelligent design" pseudoscience.

"Only religious people believe in truth"? Since they reject reason, the scientific method, and substitute pure fantasy in its place, they are the enemies of the truth.Grendel wrote:I agree evolution should be banned in the USA and creationism taught to children as fact. The limitation on biological research alone affects you. Cures are put on indefinite hold as we have to appease the religious in their false beliefs about a soul existing in a cluster of cells that possess no consciousness. Lines of medical research based on evolution are not always followed up on because of religious people heading research projects. The example I gave about the baboon heart was just one of many idiocies the anti-evolution crowd has caused.

Since all religions except the Church of Ouzo are based on faith, I guess I'm the last man standing, O my brothers in tribulation!

Not true, there are religions based on sex and at least one in ancient Greece based on mathematics, there was even one in the 19th century based on science.bobevenson wrote:Since all religions except the Church of Ouzo are based on faith, I guess I'm the last man standing, O my brothers in tribulation!

First of all, I'm talking about present-day religions, and secondly, I'm sure that even the one based on sex postulates unproven principles. The Church of Ouzo stands alone in offering the pathway to truth: "Understand the man and you cannot be deceived by his institutions." --from "The Ouzo Prophecy"Grendel wrote:Not true, there are religions based on sex and at least one in ancient Greece based on mathematics, there was even one in the 19th century based on science.bobevenson wrote:Since all religions except the Church of Ouzo are based on faith, I guess I'm the last man standing, O my brothers in tribulation!

"The only ones who think it exists"? That's an odd claim. The fact is that religious people who believe faith is a virtue have no concern for the truth. There is a saying, "To the extent faith is possible, it is irrational. To the extent faith is rational, it is impossible." Faith requires that reason take a hike. Once a person abandons their reason, then they have shown a blatant disregard for the truth.Grendel wrote:Doesn't effect me.ForgedinHell wrote: The limitation on biological research alone affects you. You claim to be arguing the evil of all faiths, Forgy, but your examples of evil are drawn narrowly from Christian Fundamentalism. You do realise that, even supposing you are entirely correct about the evils of Christian Fundamentalism, you have failed to prove anything about religions in general, don't you?ForgedinHell wrote:They invade our lives with such nonsense as Bible prophecy, that we now run the danger of electing a rube into high-office who will consider it to be a divine duty to start a nuclear holocaust. Of course you do, being a disciple of Science and Logic and a lawyer to boot!

You need to learn how to read. I specifically referenced those religions that state faith is a virtue. I never stated all religions, period. Therefore, you have once again shown that you are ignorant trash who can't even read at the third-grade level.mickthinks wrote:You claim to be arguing the evil of all faiths, Forgy, but your examples of evil are drawn narrowly from Christian Fundamentalism. No, my post was quite specific. I listed religions that state faith is a virtue. it's really not my fault that you never learned how to read. You certainly have not demonstrated the ability to engage in any rational thought on this forum.mickthinks wrote:Mick: You claim to be arguing the evil of all faiths, Forgy, ...

Can you name a faith that is not a 'religion that states faith is a virtue' (or vice versa)?

lol How far up your own arse are you going to climb before you realise you look like a banana?

Re: Any Religion that Teaches Faith is a Virtue is Evil
Anyone may read my beginning comments and see that I repeatedly referred only to those religions that make the claim that faith is a virtue. If you want to read something into my words that was never written, I can't stop you, but I can point out your mistake. It is you who is making a fool of himself here, not me. The fact is philosophy has no room for theistic superstition. The atheists here really do need to make a stand that superstitious religion is incompatible with science and reason.mickthinks wrote:Can you name a faith that is not a 'religion that states faith is a virtue' (or vice versa)?
