Hello Philosophy Now forum-
I will cop to being an amateur philosopher. It's always been an interest of mine, but I've never had any formal training. My own efforts have been all over the board. But you know, you get older & think- "I'd like to figure this stuff out! I'd better get reading."
But to really learn, you need to interact with others, it seems.
Some of my other interests: theology, history, politics, travel & the outdoors.
I'm a CPA, so I guess I get paid to think. But it's not pure thinking, more like applied thinking.
Anyway, I hope you don't mind a newbie who likes to ask questions.

Hello sthilda87 (would that be the year of a class at an Oxford college?)
Fear not, accountants' brains can easily mutate into philosophers' brains. I started with philosophy, then qualified as an accountant to earn a living, but now spend most of my time on philosophy.
You are right, interaction is important. Hence this forum. There may well be some welcoming philosophers in your area too.

religion: yes/no/don't know
political: left/middle/right
existential: object/subject
metaphysical: subject/object
ethical: nihilist/religious
epistemological: relativist/absolutist
mind: body/spirit
feminist: why would you, you're a man!
...and the rest is just showing off!

Hello Richard- thanks for the note. The "hilda" reference is to Hilda of Whitby.
Earning a living- yes, that describes it. Some days of earning the living are definitely better than others, but I guess there are worse ways of earning a buck.
