Howdy from a Sexist
Hello All.
I understand my wife's young cousin has been here telling everyone how sexist I am, so I thought I would come here and tell you in person how sexist I am. Well, not in person, exactly, but you know what I mean.
So, in no particular order, a few things about myself:
I am butt-ugly, as you may have gathered from my user name. The fact that a totally gorgeous woman decided she wants to marry me continues to blow my mind.
I am an ordained Baptist minister, but was fired after a few weeks as a minister for a small church in a shithole town in the shittiest part of Texas, because the congregation were (and presumably continue to be) a bunch of self-centered, self-righteous, arrogant, and ignorant pricks. They wanted a preacher who would tell that they are saved, and anyone who does not think as they do is going to hell. I told them that a Christian who takes the Word of God seriously may not judge such things, and should no more assume their own salvation than to assume the damnation of an atheist communist alcoholic adulterer.
Now I own a Country & Western bar and breed horses.
"What kind of music do you have in this here bar, Billy-Bob?"
"Here we have both kinds of music: Country AND Western!"
I am a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, and I spend some of my spare time teaching kids how to use a gun without blowing their fool heads off, or accidentally blowing away mommy or daddy after mistaking them for a home intruder. From time to time, I go and shoot a woodland animal, which I then eat. Doubtless, I will get flamed for this.
I was exposed to some philosophy in Bible College, mostly in order to be shown how anything other than watered-down Calvinism that passes for theology in the American South is wrong. Nevertheless, when someone starts going on about Theory of Forms or Categorical Imperative or whatnot, I will usually have at least some idea of what they are talking about.
I think John Calvin is the most brilliant theologian ever, but he failed to see the incredible implications of his thought.
I am a sexist. At least, that is what I am told.
I think that women are better at looking after the house and the kids than men are, and I think that that is just as important, and just as (if not more) difficult than going to work. I also think that men who beat their wives should be shot, although I would settle for lethal injection. Also, any man who thinks that just because he is the breadwinner of the family means he is in charge is a fool.
I used to be an alcoholic, but now I drink in moderation. Alcoholic Anonymous are full of shit.
I am loud, brash, and opinionated.
I think that the whole socialized medicine thing will never work in the USA. It does, from what I heard, works in Canada and the UK and other socialist countries, and in any case, if they want socialized medicine, fine, let them do it and if it works, great, if it does not, its not my problem. I know that there are no death panels in Canada, and most opponents of socialized medicine are fools, or insurance company executives.
I hate the Democrats. I loathe the Tea Party. I despite the Republicans. There was some hope for them under Reagan, at least until he started racking up the deficit, but not any more. I think that the Libertarian Party consists primarily of losers and nerds and dorks.
This I think should give you a reasonable idea of what sort of person I am. I will expound on my views in more detail later.
Also, I have a message to the grown men (meaning, primary, Chaz) who have been arguing with my wife's cousin:
Gentlemen, you are arguing with a 16-year-old girl who dresses like a 10-year-old and still plays with dolls. She has the emotional maturity of a 10-year-old.
If you win, hey, you won an argument against an emotionally immature teenage girl. Big fucking whoop.
But if you lose, which you often do, you lose against an emotionally immature teenage girl, and are a dork.

Hello noob!
Hmmm, not a bad start. If you can keep it up, then I hope you stick around.

Hi Froggy! So, let me see if I got you right....
you love yourself and despise more or less everyone else?
Welcome to the club, man.
I never quite grasped the categorical imperative shit, personally...

She might be 16 but she is smarter than you appear to be.
Her age is of no consequence in any event. Mozart was writing some of the most remarkably music younger than her.
You look so ridiculous that you are probably bogus any way.

So what do you suggest? As it is a philosophy forum and she is posting here. Should we just ignore her? Or maybe we should have an age-ban? Or maybe you could get your wife's sibling to ban her from here and learn more useful skills, like cooking and cleaning?FrogFacedCowboy wrote:...

You're also assuming that we 'argue' for some kind of 'win' and that a 16-year old cannot have a winning argument?
Re: Howdy from a Sexist
Could you give any good reasons for being so critical about AA ?
Not they I was going to join them, but in D.F. Wallace´s novel they are analysed in a convincing way.
They may speak in an ungrammatical way, as Joelle van Dyke correctly remarked, but this has been the strongest argument so far against them.

They claim to be the one true way to stop drinking, a claim for which there is no evidence.Could you give any good reasons for being so critical about AA ?
They even have a derogatory term for people who stopped drinking without wasting time going to daily meetings for years on end: dry drunks.
No, not everyone. Just a lot.Hi Froggy! So, let me see if I got you right....

Not at all. One should not ignore children. This does not mean that they should be treated as one does adults.Arising_uk wrote:So what do you suggest? As it is a philosophy forum and she is posting here. Should we just ignore her?
I can see that you have a stereotype concerning what all sexists are like. I find this ironic.Or maybe you could get your wife's sibling to ban her from here and learn more useful skills, like cooking and cleaning?
Everyone, male, female, transgender, whatever, should be able to cook and to clean.
You are a bunch of peacocks, except instead of a fan of iridescent feathers you have half-baked philosophical arguments, with which you hope to display your superior intelligence. You (at least most of you) are not seekers after a truth of any sort, you just like showing how smart you are. Now there is nothing wrong with that, but a man has got to be honest about what he is doing. You're also assuming that we 'argue' for some kind of 'win' and that a 16-year old cannot have a winning argument?

And it is sometimes appropriate to treat them like children.

In this medium it can be difficult to tell age and gender.FrogFacedCowboy wrote:Not at all. One should not ignore children. This does not mean that they should be treated as one does adults.
So this, "I think that women are better at looking after the house and the kids than men are ...", means what? That we should teach them plumbing, carpentry and electrics?I can see that you have a stereotype concerning what all sexists are like. I find this ironic.
I agree and can and do. Do you?Everyone, male, female, transgender, whatever, should be able to cook and to clean.
You a mind-reader? That a god-given gift? What do you mean by "a man has got to be honest about what he is doing."? To himself or to others? Can I assume from this that this is your reason for being here? You are a bunch of peacocks, except instead of a fan of iridescent feathers you have half-baked philosophical arguments, with which you hope to display your superior intelligence. Hi Frog Face,
I never met a Texan who had much to say that I agreed with...not that I have met many Texans. Anyway, I liked your opening post. Very clever and honest...as far as you understand yourself and the world. That is all we can hope for I guess. But here it is not exactly about winning...although we do like to throw punches once in a while. No, here it is about being opinionated with arguments for that opinion but more importantly it is about having your opinions challenged with even better arguments.
Just out of curiosity. Do you hate Government in general? Just asking because most Texans I know do...unless of course they themselves ARE the government and get to make the rules Texas style. Tell me...are you like most Texans I've met?
Anyway, welcome to the forum and excuse my blunt introduction. I like to just lay my cards on the table sometimes.

American ladies are good at playing soccer !
And so are Japanese, Swedish and French women.
I read today in the newspapaer but I do not watch soccer.
For English women soccer or football is probably not tough enough, they might prefer something like rugby ...
