VMware

Post by Phil8659 »

It has been years since I tried VMware, and at that time, it did not seem that the cost of it was worth the trouble. However, now that they have released the reigns on it, and one can acquire it free. I decided to check it out again.

Now, Virtualbox, has, at least for me, a very troubling problem which has persisted throughout its development, not in regard to any serious part of my work, but in the amusement area, that of my running video's in the background. It has never been reliable in keeping the video and the sound in sync.
But, on trying VMware, it seem it does it effortlessly. No syncing problem.
So, I deleted all my running Virtualboxes and replaced them with VMware. I built seven for what I call annoyance boxes, i.e., ones to watch video programming on, and two, which read my audiobooks straight from Word. I can correct any OCR artifacts, or formatting when I notice it on the fly.
I therefore wasted yesterday in that endeavor, and am back on track with my projects. In short, I removed the stress of bad syncing.
So, VM has taken on Oracle in cost, and this will change the dynamics of which VM comes out on top. So far, it looks like VM is going to win this one, especially for those who like a spot of entertainment going on while working.

So, I do not use my videoessays or my auidoessays, as they require as much auditing as I can muster in the background while I am working on other projects as I can give them, and since the text and word files are very small compared to audio or vid, I run the the source files for myself. This means that my machine needs all the voices installed on them, which means that I have to run at least two versions of OS, while working on projects. In short, I am always practicing how to walk and chew gum at the same time.
Some day, I just might learn how to do it.

I really like the fact that the newer computers can run the voices better than my older machine, which was plagued by popping hissing at times. They are getting the electronics down!

I would be nice if all OS systems came with a base pack of around 50 voices made from voice fonts.

Audio font technology, being pursued for its saving a great deal of physical memory, while maintaining the use of artistic applicability for the user, is why Microsoft has tried to monetize the technology to its advantage. However, a good computer OS, would exploit it for the user, and not for the corporate tyrants.
Still, there are plenty of programmers still applying their skill in defiance of the corporate assholes.
