12tb on the cheap

I bought 2 12tb drives on the cheap. I wanted to see just how bad they were.
Well, the drives were very good, however, they guy selling them just started out, and did not even know how to pack them for shipping, one of the 2 drives did not make it. All it would do is beep, but not spin up. The were wrapped in paper. one layer of bubble wrap on the bottom, and none on the top, stuffed into zip lock bags.
The surviving drive had very low hours and very low start ups on it. Should be good for years.
Well, he says he will do better on the wrapping for the drive he is sending to replace the victimized one. That is okay, the box the go in will not be here till Monday.

So, here is a tip, if you do not know how to do something, try YouTube, even though it is run by thugs, you still get good information.

Back to the topic.

I was shipped another drive, and it checks perfect. It was wrapped a whole lot better.

Now, the Mediasonic 4 has 4 12tb drives in it, and I put an aux fan in the front to keep temp in the 30 c range.
It took 2 days to put my entertainment files, mp3, movies, tv series, karaoke, and midi, on it. I kept both boxes on aux fans during the exchange.

I took the board off that drive, and it gave me the information as to its origins and purpose. It was from an Iomega 12tb external drive, the motor for the spindle, however, was short circuit, i.e., burned out. I put the board aside, and shit canned the drive.
The DOM (Date of Manufacture) on the drive itself was 2021.
