Now, most of the places that list the Mediasonic 8bay list them as being sold out or unavailable, and my order showed no shipping activity for days now, and now I know why. They finally arrived at BALDWIN PARK, CA, an entry point to the US, which makes me believe from Taiwan as well.
My box is on its way, finally. I already have the drives to go in it, got them in yesterday.
And I hope, by then, the box I got yesterday is done taking the files I am putting on it.
One might notice a newer trend, recertified drives are often sold still attached to the tray. When swapping drives in a commercial farm, those drives have to be populated before they are swapped out, and thus, they are attached to a new tray, so they just sell the old ones leaving it on. I just take the tray off and shit can it. I check the disk, make sure it is good, and I am good to go. The demands on private usage of these drives is that they will last a lot longer for personal use, than for corporate use. I have had drives last for decades that I bought used.
I generally end up trashing perfectly functioning drives in the trash, they are too out of date.
A drive, itself, may actually last a lifetime, however, the technology to use the drive will not.
For the private individual, riding the technology wave is more practical riding in the back seat. One can more afford that ride.
