Re: Excusing God
Excusing the inexcusable God.
Bravo! Every word.
"Why would a benign God create a universe that ultimately generated entities susceptible to endless, sometimes unbearable, distress, inflicted on them by nature or by their fellows?"
A universe? The factiest fact that ever there was is nature's infinity. The infinity of nature. And it doesn't matter what theory of time applies, A or B. B as in Bollocks. Eternalism. As opposed to the common sense of presentism. From eternity. Regardless of the Relativity of Simultaneity, yeah but blah-di-blah-di-bloody-blah.
So, this God has no option whatsoever but to have been grounding universes, all with the same constants of course, not His choice, nature's, for forever and ever. Amen. The laws of physics are prevenient of God. They are the purest and onliest of Platonic forms. Believers cling to the non-calculable, measured only, half dozen fundamental constants in the keys of c, e, G, h plus k and alpha as the smile of the Cheshire God. Whereas obviously they are what they have to be once the minimalist points of existence interact. They emerge like everything else.
So this God lords it, or rather Lords it, over infinite nature, as if He didn't. If infinite nature cannot exist without Him grounding it, instantiating the forms of physics, that's all He can do. Even if He were transcendent Love, the best case God, beyond the text bound fundamentalism of Christianity in the emergent, who raises up every cloven worm, who makes all well for all that ever suffered, He can not hint at it. By some inexcusable, ineffable, meaningless, immoral, inadequate compunction. Therefore, He is not Love. If He were, it would be obvious. Therefore He doubly does not ground being. Does not exist. Is not. By His inexcusability, immorality, inadequacy, as well as his total lack of being necessary to explain infinite nature. [or anything at all].
[A few days ago a friend shared with me a horror from the Holocaust. Now I'm very well read in these and many other matters for 60 years. But I didn't know this particular mind wiping horror. And I have stood at the furnace doors where particular, unhinging evil was done, even by the standards of what was happening day in, day out. Some days, believe it or not, in hell on earth, were much worse than most others. In a very busy schedule of a hard day's killing, they took time out, made the effort, to go the extra mile of sadism beyond belief. And the perpetrators were all from Christian culture. Don't anyone dare ask for proof, because I'll provide it. In the first example, of an event that is known apparently, as the worst of the time, the victims weren't, so that's all right. They were killed in obscene agony by deliberate cruelty in full, filmed, public spectacle and they get to burn forever and ever amen. There are whack jobs here who justify, moralize that. The God who rules over that. There are slightly lesser weirdos who claim moral objectivity without God. Or are they actually worse?]
