Stop the wars! Work toward a sustainable future for all life on Earth!

Post by Gary Childress »

During a dire existential emergency, even us lowest of low-brow humans need to do our part if there is to be peace and a continuity of life on Earth. I regret that I have but my own single life to completely trash and discredit in the name of a future for all life on Earth. And when I go, I want to be cremated and my ashes thrown into the eye of a hurricane so that nothing remains of me to be reassembled.

There is but one worthy goal for a human being to pursue in life, and that goal is to maintain a sustainable future for all life on Earth. There is nothing else in this world worth dying for than to see a future for our beautiful blue planet and for all the lovely life forms that live on it.

Dear God, please help us all if you're out there.

Everything is dying. Dying to live. And, living to die.

At the instance of your birth, you are constantly being prepared for death. That’s the true awakening, to realise this, and to surrender to this divine process, that effortlessly carries you from cradle to grave, sometimes graciously, sometimes ungraciously, and sometimes extremely violently.

There is no difference whether you live a hundred years, or only two years. Those years are simply an individuated sample of life's infinite experiences. There’s no difference in a life span, because ultimately life is experiencing itself infinitely for eternity.

If and when the world ends, there will be no one around to know the ending anyway. So might as well just surrender now. Die before you die.

That which started this whole process will end it when it’s meant to end and not one second before.

Total Surrender is your only one true certain refuge.

Nothing can ever harm or hurt you. Except your mind, and no one has ever been able to find their mind.

Out of all the things I miss, I miss my mind the most.

I'm afraid there's not hope for humanity, not when you can't even do something as simple as putting an 's' on the end of 'toward'. RIP.

"Toward" and "towards" mean the same thing ("in the direction of") and are interchangeable, but "toward" is more common in American English, while "towards" is more common in British English.
I'll never understand the fascination the two of you have with my posts. But I guess I should be thankful that you both always seem to bring me down. It's doubtless where I belong. :D

No one can bring you down but yourself. Why do you keep bringing yourself down like that?

One's wrong and the other isn't. And I've heard plenty of well-educated Americans say 'towards'.

Why is it better to put an "s" on the end of toward? If I put an "s" on toward, then it seems like it should probably be to signify that it was "towards" multiple goals. However, in the case of the OP there is a single goal "a sustainable future for all life on Earth" so I used "toward" instead of "towards". Doesn't that sound more righter than "toward"?

One's correct and the other isn't. End of that discussion. Haven't you got some more whining to do?

Why am I the incorrect one? Why can't you ever be incorrect? It isn't fair.

How's that for whining?

Gazza, she can't provide a logical reason because she lacks the capacity. (* thus resorts to insults)

The correct one has the 's' on because it denotes the fact that there is movement.

Take stop and stops - the stops version provides the contemplation of slowing down, where the stop version is instant. Probably not the best analogy..

Towards - more clearly invokes the sense of movement.

towards
preposition mainly UK
uk /təˈwɔːdz/ /twɔːdz/ us /tɔːrdz/ /twɔːrdz/
(also mainly US toward)
towards preposition (MOVEMENT)

The idiots get everything backwards. I'm sure it's deliberate just to be annoying. Why else would they ADD 's' to 'forward' when it DOESN'T have one?! They are all over the place. 'Anyways' instead of 'anyway'. 'Math' instead of 'maths'. Ugh!

I don't know whether this is a thang in NZ - the thing that really grinds my gears, although i've noticed lately it's on the decline is using 'but' instead of 'though' (here in Oz)

EG:
"I like pork cops."
"I don't eat pork but."
