Can the Pixel Parable dissolve the Hard Problem?

Is the mind the same as the body? What is consciousness? Can machines have it?

Can the Pixel Parable dissolve the Hard Problem?

Post by deaconlight »

Hello

I recently published an argument that proposes to dissolve (not solve) the hard problem of consciousness, and I’m seeking impressions before finalizing its paper.

The framework is called the "Pixel parable", and it's available here: https://antoniomax.substack.com/p/can-a ... ssolve-the

In essence, the Pixel Parable reframes the hard problem as a category mistake, arguing that qualia are not a separate "why it feels" but are inherently tied to the brain’s representational activity. It unifies consciousness and qualia as facets of the same phenomenon: the brain’s recursive and integrative process of representation.

The framework narrates how (and why) the subjective experience arises as a natural consequence of what brains do, offering a practical, testable, and physicalist perspective for philosophy, neuroscience, and AI.

And while the Pixel Parable isn't a full-fledged theory of consciousness (ToC), it provides a coherent structure for engaging with the hard problem, which makes it robust enough to handle ToC tests, something that is explored in the Appendix B. Appendix A and C are more neuroscience-oriented, without weighting on the core argument, but if you fancy the topic, dive in!
