Nihilism in our age....

Post by Peter Kropotkin »

in thinking about AJ ''weak feminized man'' and his inability to
make that notion concrete... show us real life examples
of a ''weak feminized man''... brings me to thinking about
other abstract, theoretical ideas that sound good,
theoretically..... but turned into reality brings us
into a great deal of problems....

For example, property......the basis of law in both the UK and
the U.S is property laws.... protection of property is the
premier reason for laws... not protection of persons, but
protection of property....

and let us look at the real world.... a world where not millions
don't have any property but billions of people don't have property....
for example, it is estimated that 35% of all Americans don't own....
that is roughly 120 million people that don't own property....
some countries have higher ownership rates and some have
lower......it is thought that between 60% and 90% of people own
homes.. I would think it is lower than higher... so, let us go with
60%... so roughly 4 billion people don't own property...
if we go with 70% and that is much too high, we still get roughly
3 billion people without property... (again, rather rough figures,
not exact numbers but figures that get us in the ballpark)

so, we can wax poetic about the advantages of owning
property, but in fact, billions of people cannot and will not
ever own property....

but let us imagine a world where we can give 8 billion people
property....... how would that work? again, we have to deal with
reality and the reality is that we don't have the resources to
build enough homes to house 8 billion people...
and the resources in the world are not increasing, but
decreasing.....as we only have a finite amount of resources
in the world..... this lack of resources not only limits our ability
to house, but also to clothe, feed, educate, give health care
to billions of people.... so, any talk about the thrills of owning
property is limited, at best, to those who actually can own.....
roughly half the world's population and that number will decrease
if one understands the math involved.....

all of this leads us to understand that what we consider ''important'''
today, will have little or no value in the future... our beliefs
are ''ad hoc'' of the moment..... and property rights are just
another belief, that is ''ad hoc'' of the moment....

but what will be considered to be important soon?
resources.... water, air, food, forests....
that is where the next group of wars will occur...
fighting over resources... the next world war won't be
about ism's or ideologies, but about resources...
who has them and who wants them......the history of
the next hundred years will center around this question
of resources... of which is property....
and therein lies a problem....

if resources are so valuable, worth fighting over,
then why do we allow private companies to own
something that valuable? Private companies are
only interested in profits.. and those resources are
a valuable source of profits.... will companies use
those resources to help people to live, to survive,
or do they simply sell off those resources to make
a profit... and screw everyone else in the process....
the basic point becomes that those resources necessary
to survive on, become hostage to those who own those
resources... with owning say, water... those who own
the water will determine who lives and dies because they
get to choose who lives and dies by their allocation of
the water.... thus, the resources of life wind up in
the hands of the wealthy, and in doing so, the wealthy
get to decide who gets the water and why those people,
and not others?.... (spoiler alert.. those with money get
the water, not the poor, because the poor can't afford it)

the basic premise of capitalism is the control of resources
to the benefit of those who own those resources....
thus, putting profits ahead of people......
which is nihilism.... which I have defined, many times,
as the putting of ideas, money, property, values ahead of people....
people as a means to an end is nihilism.....

Nihilism: a negation of people and their values....

Nietzsche prophesy about the 20th century being the century
of "Nihilism'' has been extended into the 21st century....

just a thought about what owning property leads us to.....
