what values/beliefs should we hold to?

Post by Peter Kropotkin »

in thinking about values/beliefs, I got to wondering
about which values/beliefs we should be holding?

as I have mentioned before, the right wing wants
a homogenization of values/beliefs... in other words,
everyone holds to the same values and beliefs...
among them are god, a hierarchy of people...

(which is to say, that people can be judge from the higher
to the lower.. that kings and the monied class, is of higher
class, of more value than the common people...that there
are a class of superior people, and the rest of us should bow
down to this class of superior people.. it is not actually explained
how this class of people is superior, it is just assumed)

that the vast majority of people are, inferior, worthless,
not worth the entitlements we give them, social security and the like,

that there are absolute standards of right and wrong is another
belief of the right...that the right wing by being the right wing,
hold to the ''correct'' values, and are the only ones who hold to the right/
correct values of a society/state/culture...

in other words, the extreme right wing holds to a massive
amount of assumed values and beliefs...
that the past is superior to the present or the future is another
right wing value/belief...that the values of the many or the society
as a whole, is by the very virtue of being held by the society
as a whole, it is wrong....the majority is always wrong in the
world of the right wing...
and only a set, small number of people/groups are ever right/correct...

these are some base, set values of the right....

but what about the left?

next post...

the left is called, 'WOKE" but no one has actually
defined ''WOKE'', so until I see an actual definition of
''WOKE" I can't comment on what ''WOKE" is or means....

but I can state some of the values/beliefs that the left holds
to.... justice is a very important value on the left....
but justice itself has two parts, justice but also
equality... to be just, one must have equality...
to be just is to be equal in the eyes of the law for
example.... to be just, one must treat everyone
equally.... or as the declaration of Independence say,

"we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all
men are created equally"

and we hold to that truth...and part of that truth is
to include other values and beliefs as valid,
or said another way, diversity is another cornerstone of liberal belief...

That I don't hold the exclusive truth, that we all hold some aspects of
the truth... and in allowing everyone their truths, we can
find our truth in that diversity....

and here is another truth for the left... that there is no objective
standard or truth to be found... on which rock am I to hold to
the belief that there is an objective truth? on god, or on
minority/majority beliefs, or on traditional values?
I don't know where I can stand and provide objective
truth... on what rock or values/beliefs can I state for
certain, that I hold the truth?

another truth for the left is that if we allow some to hold
certain rights, then we must allow everyone of age, to hold
those rights... in other words, if we allow marriage to some,
men and women, then we must allow the right to marry
to any that are of the legal age.... if we hold to certain rights
for some, then those rights should be invested in everyone...
thus if some are allowed to vote, then everyone of legal age,
should be allowed to vote....thus if some are allowed to
have plays and musicals, then everyone is allowed
to plays and musicals.. even trans people...
to be fair, you can't allow some to have certain rights
and prevent those same rights to others...
it is everyone who has the same rights, or no one has those
rights...for we are not wise enough to decide which groups or
set of people that can have rights but disallow those rights
to others...

and that is the value of justice at work... to be just is to be
equal... and the name of the game for the left is justice/equality...
