Why did God make an exception?

Genesis 3:22: And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”
Who are them that know good and evil? Why did God make an exception? I mean if they are beings who know good and evil then why did God prohibit Adam and Eve from eating the fruit and knowing good and evil?

mythological fantasy as if you were speaking of something that actually took place?

Your question is legitimate, because those who made the myth have to be supposed to have something to communicate with it. The plural refers to God and his surrounding court. Good and evil is a "polar" expression to mean "everything".
