I agree that the philosopher better works as a detective, than with the political bias acting as a spy implies. However, in line with Socratic thinking within which all kinds of profession are compared to philosophy, such as shoemaking, wrestling .....the philosopher is a little bit of everything, which would include both the spy and detective. In the lifelong challenge to understand all the roles that a human being can assume, the philosopher finds the common, abstract identity that is behind them all.
