how hard is it to publish in Philosophy Now?
How hard is it to publish in Philosophy Now (PN)?
Has anyone who reads this question and can answer it here tried to publish?
What was your success rate?
You don't need to say your real (or alias author) name under which you published in PN, unless of course you wish to.
I have two articles in mind, but I've been so fed up with rejections that I can't bear myself to send in anything to anyone (any publisher) any more.

Maybe there's a good reason for it! But keep trying, if you're truly dedicated, because it's your dream.-1- wrote: ↑Fri Aug 17, 2018 5:24 pm How hard is it to publish in Philosophy Now (PN)?

Well, you have to bear in mid that PN are trying to present serious philosophy in a way that is accessible to the general public. So you have to explain a challenging idea it in a way that avoids difficult language.
It was a while ago, but here's my contribution: https://philosophynow.org/issues/104/Ph ... d_Branches
Rejection is just something that you have to deal with, but you have to have 3500-4000 words to be rejected in the first place. As it happens, I started a thread with the purpose of demonstrating how the process works. viewtopic.php?f=12&t=24022&start=15 I've had to put that on hold due to other commitments, but I hope to pick it up in a few weeks time.
In the meantime, if you want to give us some idea of your two articles, I would be happy to throw in my tuppence worth about how to structure and develop an article based on them.
Re: how hard is it to publish in Philosophy Now?
I had no clue PN wants articles in the 3500-4000 word range.
I'll look for their guidelines.
Thanks for your willing to help, WTF. I'll publish one of them here, maybe, but it will have to wait, as there are other things on my plate more burning, such as an imminent travel to Europe to get my teeth fixed, creating permanent peace in the Middle East by diplomatic means, and doing my dishes, among other things.

Good luck with the teeth.

That's the part that was not a joke. I get them done there at 1/8th the price of what I pay here. Of course I would not fly over the Atlantic to get my feef cleaned, but I am getting four implants, and two bridges. It will set me back about 4000 Canadian dollars, plus travel expenses, which is about two thousand dollars. And guess how much one implant here locally costs with a crown... my own local dentist (with local anesthesia) quoted six thousand dollars. One implant, one crown.
Plus I get to see my sister, her family, and my millions of friends in Budapest.
Re: how hard is it to publish in Philosophy Now?
I heard from a Polish guy, whom I play cards with, that Poland is even cheaper than Hungary for dentistry work. He is in Poland as we speak. I don't speak Polish, and know nobody in Poland, so I chose Budapest.

UWOT. I read your article that had appeared in PN. It is very informative, and has more logical connection than the previous reading I had done on the subject many moons ago.
Yours connected the dots, so to speak, while the other text (part of an introductory text to philosophy) treated Thales more like a maverick who said random things. Although all his interpretations of physical stuff was wrong, with today's knowledge at hand, but it was not random, and your treatment of the topic beautifully showed that, while the other guy failed at it.
I really liked it. Very much. It is worth to memorize it, and I shalt endeavour that, but I'm getting old and the old gray matter is bombarded also by side effects of medications taken for heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes, that create confusion and memory loss.

On my last two trips, both three weeks long or so, I constantly walked the city and took photos. Over a thousand photos to show that this city is simply amazing.
I had once randomly read one of the issues of National Geographic, which listed all the sites in the world that were protected (sic) by the UN as Heritage Sites. There were the Pyramids of Gaza, the shanty towns of Gaza, the Gaza chambers of Auschwitz, etc... I mean, the Eiffel Tower, the Grand Canyon, the Great Wall of China, The Kremlin, the Statue of Liberty, the Colossus or Rhode, Arnold Schwartzenegger, The Caves Paintings at Navarro, Michelangelo's David, etc.etc., and there was "Budapest: the entire city." That's how great it is.

There was a silly, shallow article about 'indigenous philosophy' in it recently so it can't be all that difficult.

Is somebody suggesting this forum does practice censorship after all?
