Bill Nye says philosophy is meaningless. Personally, I think Bill Nye can suck a meaningless dick.

While Bill Nye clearly hasn't read any philosophy and was wrong on a number of counts. The link dismantles his arguments well but the comments above remind me of the crazy theist response to Richard Dawkins: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZuowNcuGsc

I think it's fair to say that many scientists don't understand philosophy. It's a catch-22 with some of them. Since they are scientists they claim that their role is mainly "shut up and calculate" (and, these days, educate) and leave the big picture questions and narratives to others. Which others should consider the big questions that science cannot yet probe if not "useless" philosophers? Politicians? Lawyers? Moguls? Priests?

Hawking, Tyson and Nye clearly don't consider such considerations important enough to think through properly. It's not as though they lack the mental chops.
