Where Do You See Yourself In 10 Years
...assuming you are alive.
A friend asked me this question the other day, I thought she meant career wise...but she didn't, she meant personally.
She is my lollipops and rainbows friend. She see's herself with sweet Grandchildren, cruising around the world with her husband, baking cookies etc....ya gotta love her. It's all sincere, trust me. She warms the heart.
I said with a chuckle, " Well let's see, at 50 I was diagnosed with diabetes and glaucoma...so I wonder what is in store for 60."
Why do I have to go there? lol What is the point?
I wish with all my heart I could be lollipops and rainbows like my dear friend.

barring major upheavals i will still be farming - it is a major commitment
i had people tell me i am crazy to get into it but so far i am having a great time
but i can see my surroundings change quite a bit
a lot of my neighbors and/or business associates are getting on in years - not sure how many of them will be around in ten
i am far enough from "civilization" that having farmland being sold for subdivisions is not yet an issue here - but it could happen eventually

No lollipops for me.
At 80, you have to take a driver's test and may be denied a license if your sight and hearing aren't up to par, as well as on skill. Or we may not be strong enough to do the maintenance and regular chores. Or one of us may require frequent medical treatments.
There is a good chance we'll have to move into the nearest city. Moving will be a huge challenge, even if I get serious about reducing the *stuff* we've accumulated in 20 years of various occupations and interests.
The equity in our house will be eaten up by the higher price of urban rent and utilities. If Harper wins another majority, our pensions and services will dwindle. The home business has already taken a couple of major hits from postal hikes and currency devaluation; I don't see it providing revenue beyond the next couple of years. The economic outlook is not rosy.
We both have health issues, which will likely deteriorate. We will both decline and one will probably die before the other. One or both will have to make end-of-life decisions, which, even in liberal climates, are never fun.

You're 80? Really...I pictured you much younger in my head. All of that is the way I think...I don't know why lollipop people are attracted to me. I must be a miserable sob to be around...lol. is your better person a lollipop and rainbow individual?Skip wrote:No lollipops for me.

Cleveland, Ohio. Just as my profile pic reflects.
Who is Harper?
What have you been doing in Vegas over the past few years?

I picture me younger in my head, too. To avoid reflective surfaces, I don't even wash the car.artisticsolution wrote:You're 80? Really...I pictured you much younger in my head. In real life, I'm closing in on 70; my partner is a year older and way more crotchety. Anyway, diabetics can't have lollipops and nobody can a have a rainbow unless it's raining, which it better not, till I get all those front windows caulked and painted.
I'm in pretty fair health right now - but a silly accident in early May taught me that living in the country when your legs don't work properly is impractical: I was damn near useless all though planting and landscaping season; couldn't do the house-painting I'd planned or bring the firewood in on schedule.
We're okay now, but in the next ten years, neither of us can expect to improve, physically or mentally.
I live in rural Ontario... among the idiots who vote for Fathead Larry. The first year he was running, he came up to me in a store one time, stuck his big cushiony paw out at me and said, "Hello, I'm your Conservative candidate." I said, "No, you're not. You're one of the gang that mugged the PC and stole their name." He doesn't like me anymore.

Long before that time is up to be what I was before I became and not to extenuate by offers of repair.

Fuck. I don't know what I'm having for breakfast tomorrow.

A banana, a bran muffin and a glass of milk make a good healthy start to the day.
