Can you love if someone were to command you?

Is there a God? If so, what is She like?

This article discusses the philosophy of Franz Rosenzweig, a Jewish philosopher. Do we understand God through understanding ourselves?:

The real answer is no. One cannot be commanded to love.

Most do not define love well. Strangely, the best short explanation I have found is from St. James and his view of how Jesus's people are recognized. You will know my people by their works and deeds.

It is the same with love. Love must have reciprocity, works and deeds, for it to be true love.

Without that voluntary working and doing of deeds and desire for reciprocity, true love cannot exist.
