In 2006, at the 16th Plenary Session of the 16th Central Committee, the CPC leadership under Hu Jintao expressed the need to create a new value system, referred to as the socialist core value system. In his speech, entitled "Resolution on Major Issues Concerning the Building of a Socialist Harmonious Society", to the 16th Plenary Session Hu Jintao stated;

"The guiding ideology of Marxism, the common ideal of the socialism with Chinese characteristics, the national spirit with patriotism as the core, the spirit of the times with reform and innovation as the core, and the socialist concept of honour and disgrace constitute the basic contents of the socialist core values system. We should persist in integrating the socialist core values system into the entire process of national education and the building of a spiritual civilization and having it run through the various aspect of the modernization drive."

Marxism–Leninism was the first official ideology of the Communist Party of China, and is a combination of classical Marxism (the works of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels) and Leninism (the thoughts of Vladimir Lenin). According to the CPC, "Marxism–Leninism reveals the universal laws governing the development of history of human society." To the CPC, Marxism–Leninism provides a vision of the contradictions in capitalist society and of the inevitability of a future socialist and communist societies. Marx and Engels first created the theory behind Marxist party building; Lenin developed it in practice before, during and after the Russian Revolution of 1917. Lenin's biggest achievement came in party-building, through concepts such as the vanguard party of the working class and democratic centralism. According to the People's Daily, Mao Zedong Thought "is Marxism–Leninism applied and developed in China".

BONUS PRO TIP - *China has surpassed the US in terms of GDP based on purchasing power parity (PPP), becoming the largest in the world by this measure, International Monetary Fund estimates show.

In 2014 China reached $17.6 trillion or 16.48 percent of the world’s purchasing-power-adjusted GDP, while the US made slightly less, 16.28 percent or $17.4 trillion, the FTreported citing IMF data.

In the mid 19th century this figure was closer to 80% and there seems every likelihood that they will achieve this level of economic dominance again within a century. The tricky task for China is to balance such a long-term strategic goal against the more immediate aspirations of its own people.

Fortunately, China's economics is becoming more capitalistic. Too bad it remains a third-world country in terms of personal freedom and human rights.

They don't exactly have the best standard of living, but as yanks think that money is everything then I suppose you would think this way. It's not even a 'socialist' country-- more of a totalitarian dictatorship. If their country is so wonderful then why are they taking over countries like mine, coming here by the bazillions, making it impossible for anyone else here to buy a house?

I think, as I tried to relay above, internally progressive Chinese want to see themselves as primarily Socialist while externally the world still recognizes China as a Communist country.

Thank you for attempting to formulate an opinion...
