I'm not a "subscriber", so I'm not allowed to read this article (but thank you for the opportunity to post in this thread 
). From the short blurb at the link which I'm able to see, it sounds like a common affliction many of us probably have, to treat philosophy like a symbol of relative "status" to others, that one is cultured and of somehow better quality than the rest because s/he knows what a particular (proverbial) "dead white guy" said 2000 years ago concerning ethics or some other matter. "High" culture vs "low" culture, aristocrats vs cynics, maybe. On the other hand, if someone spent their time in school studying, instead of "goofing off", perhaps they "deserve" some respect for the sacrifice of time and effort devoted to such things?
What are others' thoughts on "high" culture vs "low" culture? Is "privilege" ever justified?
