What is the meaning of a waste of time?
My questions for the philosophical community are:
What is a waste of time?
How do we know when we are wasting time?
What is the furthest thing from a waste of time?
What is a waste of time?
How do we know when we are wasting time?
What is the furthest thing from a waste of time?

Tada! I just did it here!
Re: What is the meaning of a waste of time?
I play "Spider Solitaire" on the internet, and I'm pretty sure that I'm wasting time.

When I sit down and practice the piano. When I spend time with the grandchildren. When I get something done around the house, either for me or my wife. When I post items on EBay, or when I browse for items to buy.Systematic wrote: What is the furthest thing from a waste of time?
The alternate is time on internet forums.

If something doesn't serve a purpose, it's a waste of time. 99.99..99% of all people in various philosophy forums, doesn't have a fucking clue about it, because they simply lack cognitive abilities.

Greeetings, Hex
Did you happen to notice the second post of the thread here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=15200 - wherein I mention your name, in the 5th line down, refer to your main concern in ethics, present some examples, and then proceed to give you credit for caring deeply about the issue?
I don't believe it was a waste of time to discuss the issue, but I had hoped you would comment on it, if not maybe even show a little appreciation.

As we are all going to die, nothing we do, or can do, is of ultimate value to ourselves.Systematic wrote:My questions for the philosophical community are:

Time is best spent doing whatever we think feels good, even if that means sacrificing our lives for another.

This is complete mindless babble with horrid false accusations! You should be ashamed of yourself!prof wrote:Hex got the comfort in life that he has by the grace of God; he got what was 'promised' to him. It is bad taste for him to look at others who he judges to be better off and gripe that they are getting more. It's none of his business.
He thinks that life is just economics but it is much more than that. He has no idea how others suffer, what dire straits they endure; he just sees that they are getting a subsidy of a certain size that he judges to be "too much." Instead of working politically to get a better deal for the mimimun-wage laborer, instead of being an activist, he just says: There's something wrong here. He offers no solutions.

My friend, you need to lay off the mortality issue for a while.Hobbes' Choice wrote:As we are all going to die, nothing we do, or can do, is of ultimate value to ourselves.Systematic wrote:My questions for the philosophical community are:

I find that the games we play retool our mind to look at life in another light. That's why I play minesweeper. It's nearly impossible to win without thinking logically.thedoc wrote:I play "Spider Solitaire" on the internet, and I'm pretty sure that I'm wasting time.

If I may get to your meaning: If something has value to you, doing it is not a waste of time--no matter how much time you spend.thedoc wrote:When I sit down and practice the piano. Interesting, and how should we first go about gaining cognitive abilities?HexHammer wrote:If something doesn't serve a purpose, it's a waste of time. 99.99..99% of all people in various philosophy forums, doesn't have a fucking clue about it, because they simply lack cognitive abilities.

Let me get a whack at it, Hex.
Hex has a great deal of intuition when it comes to making money. If you want to be rich, you'll learn how from Hex.

It's not for all, u just can't train yourself to be come a genius, but only have limited skill.Systematic wrote:Interesting, and how should we first go about gaining cognitive abilities?HexHammer wrote:If something doesn't serve a purpose, it's a waste of time. 99.99..99% of all people in various philosophy forums, doesn't have a fucking clue about it, because they simply lack cognitive abilities.
Ask yourself what purpose does it serve, is it something that is relevant for businesses?
What other relevance's may it have?
Don't expect others to have the perfect answer, so search for a good scientific answer that is fulfilling, many are very stupid and delusional about cozy chat will lead to truth, they did a lot of cozy chat and speculation in the middle ages ..that didn't leave to much good.
By relying on relevant principles you can train youself to become skilled in basic philosophy where cozy chatters will always fail.

And you need to stop giving out gratuitous advice lest someone does the same to you such as "fuck the fuck off, moron"Systematic wrote:My friend, you need to lay off the mortality issue for a while.Hobbes' Choice wrote:As we are all going to die, nothing we do, or can do, is of ultimate value to ourselves.Systematic wrote:My questions for the philosophical community are:
