There are advanced philosophical and even spiritual disciplines that understand that the human being is made-up of certain definite and definable functions.
These are;
Instinctive function – body functions that require no thought.
Example; Blood flow, digestive system
Moving function – body functions that need to be learned.
Example; Riding a bike, skipping
Sexual function – all aspects involving sex.
Example; Reproductive and associative actions
Emotional function – Emotive
Example; all positive emotions
Intellectual function – All mental reproduction
Example; Mental narration, mathematics
There are also two higher functions that we do not normally experience;
Higher emotional
Higher intellectual
These seven functions of a human being is ALL WE HAVE.
These functions may be divided or represented in different categories depending upon which philosophical or esoteric spiritual discipline they appear in.
There are also four states of being that a normal, healthy, individual could experience.
As philosophers, REAL philosophers, we can conceive that we, we as human beings, we are NOT our functions.
We are consciousness.
We have the ability to observe our selves; our body, our emotions, our thoughts.
We are different from all other life forms that we know in the degree of our ability to be self-conscious.
Being self-conscious is extremely difficult.
For we naturally grow attached to our functions; our body, our emotions, our thoughts.
We will never, and cannot ever, think our way out.
Doesn't matter what you think, the only thing that really matters is observing the function of thought.
STOP thinking.
Stop the narration.
Watch thoughts as individual egos. Nothing more.
Thoughts are dead. Zombies, who do not seek to understand.
