Way to Live

Post by Paulo »

What is life? We are only biological beings? How should we live? Following the rules? Following our wills? Is based on being good or evil? Or should we only seek happiness in a way that does not would harm anybody? "I" am more important that "he"?

Following our wills without bothering about the rules does not work.

Executive functions are best developed in those who grasp the rules and apply them.

All the messy, oozy, slimy, smelly, glorious processes carried out by RNA.

There is no only about biology. It's vast, complex, amazing and potentially unlimited.
How should we live?
As happily and decently as you can.
Following the rules?
Obviously. There are always rules, lots of them. After the physical and biological ones that nobody can break, there are still lots more man-made rules that govern human interaction in societies. These they change from place to place and time to time. If you don't like the rules where you are, move, or break the ones you don't like that you think you can get away with or that are worth the retribution.
Following our wills?
To whatever extent you can, without being harmed or harming others.
Is based on being good or evil?
Yes. How you perceive good and evil depends on your cultural matrix + temperament + experience.
Or should we only seek happiness in a way that does not would harm anybody?
That usually works best. People don't like being harmed, and unpopularity rarely makes for a happy life.
"I" am more important that "he"?
Importance can only be evaluated by a wise, well-informed and impartial outside party. All you can know for sure is how you feel, what you think, what you want, what you enjoy, what you are capable of, what you can control. That turns out to be very little for most people, so your importance is likely to be well down the scale. And his? Probably about the same. See if you can get together with him and accomplish more by co-operating than you each could by competing.
