Hello everyone. I'm ready for philosophun!
Greetings PN crew. My name is Steve, and I've been seeking out knowledge for as long as I can remember. Collecting facts for fact's sake became boring, so the next step was to learn various disciplines in order to understand the world, like psychology, economics, and physics. Yet all of these exist only in their own ivory tower, and I wanted more. The only thing left is philosophy, the king of all academic disciplines.
That was back in 1980, culminating in a Wharton doctoral program that purported to study the science and philosophy of systems. After a few years, I realized that the king may not be wearing any clothes. As you can imagine, none of my peers or advisors wanted to hear that kind of talk. I left the program to enter the wild world of business, just in time to experience the second greatest recession since the 1930s.
Today I have a wonderful family, a small company, and a half-dozen patents. I enjoy traveling, food, and flying.
I look forward to joining forces with you in uncovering the truth.
Steve

Welcome to the forum. Just curious, what are the patents.
Re: Hello everyone. I'm ready for philosophun!
Hello Doc. The patents deal with fluid movement, oil water separation, and a few mechanical devices in which we control the path of a tube through a machine. Here's an early one (5522990) that's typical in our industry.

Interesting, I'll try to look that one up later. Years ago I was working as a draftsman and one of the engineers attended a seminar on hydraulics. Talking about it later he said that by raising the pressure you could get more work out of the system. I took that to mean that higher pressures somehow reduced the internal friction of the fluid. Are you familiar with anything like this in your work?Tusok wrote:Hello Doc. I just looked up the patent, does your work involve cleaning up oil spills, environmental cleanup?

Yes, it's not necessarily to be found in books, surely they can help, but in truth, one must be able of then, cutting through their tangled forest, with their machete of equilibrium, closely observing 'all' things along the path, and how they pertain to 'everything.'

To 'thedoc' - yes, I'm familiar with those effects. No, we don't use them in my line of work. And also, no, we aren't involved in environmental applications like oil spills. Our firm specializes in factory operations.
To 'spheres..' - the truth may be "out there" and it IS up to us to define it. Bonus points for fewest number of words!

I was just keying on your disillusionment with the kings sense of fashion, no points required.Tusok wrote:To 'thedoc' - yes, I'm familiar with those effects. No, we don't use them in my line of work. Thanks Duszek. I feel a lot more like Socrates. Lots of questions, no answers. Unhappy with sophists. Especially after what happened at his trial!duszek wrote:You sound like a reincarnation of Epicurus. Someone cultivating his own nice garden, with friends and family.
