What I learnt yesterday from Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt´s play or novel about Mozart:

Mozart´s music can cure your depression.
You can be happy if you accept suffering as part of your life and do not revolt against it.

even someone selfish can scarcely be happy if their loved ones are suffering.
How can a "selfish" person know "love"?

It seems to me to be impossible, considering what love is supposed to mean. "Selfish" does not enter the equation.
