The Most Important Philosopher to the Greatest Living Man on Earth

....................................Barack Hussain Obama; 44th President of these United States

God, give me grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
Courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the Wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.

Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,
This sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.

Amen.

~~~ Reinhold Niebuhr ~~~
My thesis for this thread:
Philosophy and modern philosophers shape our living world.
The term "thesis" comes from the Greek θέσις, meaning "something put forth", and refers to an intellectual proposition.
Thank you for trying to participate in this important philosophical exercise. Good luck to you.
I apologize for the title, The Most Important Philosopher to the Greatest Living Man on Earth.
Arguably, Barack Hussein Obama could be considered the most powerful individual on earth.
What I hoped to display, by putting this thread forward, is that philosophy and actually one particular philosopher, has had a hand in shaping our world, our shared reality.
I appreciate your positive attitude. That attitude will go a long way in helping you understand future philosophically based threads.
All the best to you.
You must live in a totalitarian state if that is true.
I think our world is shaped by dogma's that we inherited from our ancestors. So the statement "Philsophy and old/ancient philosophers shape our living world", may be more true.
But is it really the philosophers that have created our ideas, or did they just create a rational foundation for the existing dogma's?
What exactly do you mean by living world?
The essence, for me, of this important philosophical thread is that philosophy is here, in this world, the world that is being shaped for mankind.
Barack Hussein Obama is arguably the greatest, most powerful single man on earth today.
President Obama
shaped by many philosophers and philosophies has identified his favorite philosopher, Reinhold Niebuhr.
This is our shared, existing reality.
Thank you for allowing me this opportunity to clear up some important concepts in relation to this thread.
I appreciate you applying yourself.
If you were on an etymology site I'd say you may have had a point but since you are on a philosophical one I'd say mine holds. You do not have a thesis, at best you have a thesis statement and even thats unlikely as you don't actually have a thesis as this would involve producing the research and arguments to back up your statement.
Arguably, Barack Hussein Obama could be considered the most powerful individual on earth.
It is arguable so I look forward to you actually putting forth your argument, not that I'll be holding my breath.
You could argue that the most powerful individual in the world is Hu Jintao as your individual owes him a lot of money. But I assume you mean Obama is powerful because his nation is more likely to exert its power through armed might so you may be onto something there.
I appreciate your positive attitude. That attitude will go a long way in helping you understand future philosophically based threads.
All the best to you.
Keep your pointless platitudes to yourself thanks.
Not a philosopher but a theologian, an important difference.
All things considered, I think the immortal gene shapes the world, and most other things are decorations, vanity and spectacles to imbue some significance into an otherwise dog eat dog natural order. However, mankinds(womankinds) saving grace is the power of love, but with it comes hate, nature is the interface to our emotions and only philosophy can make us rise above the instinctual animal tendency. Let's keep our perceptions pure, Obama, when he launches a drone, is no different to the wolf who tears the throat out of a bleating lamb.
I read the wiki info on Reinhold Niebuhr. A brilliant philosopher, a believer in god though, well, for that era, unless one be an anarcho-nihilist, it must await the substitution of an alternative awareness, just as hunter-gatherers must ultimately realise the delusionary nature of their own mythologies. Should the bubble be burst? Yes, it has to be, in this age myths equate to lies and falsehoods, and create their own ethos of criminality. We are born selfish but not criminal, I've done a circle, we return to the gene, the great philosopher defeats it, does not go to war from a territorial imperative, but on the other hand delivers justice without collateral damage. And there's a helluva lot of collateral damage in Iraq and Afghanistan,,,,I rest my case.
