Protection of a mother's health is meaningless unless you consider the fetus not a person or not worthy of the same level of protection of their life, which leaves the entire question open.

I already mentioned. A fetus is a person so it should not be killed unless the life of both mother and fetus is in danger, so we save one, the mother.

That still begs the question, why her? If they're both people, surely the more innocent and less able to care for themselves should be given precedent.

There is no beginning question because you cannot save the lives of both in the second case so you at least save the life of one.
