Good thing nobody suggested it.

But they sure have the monopoly right now.

It doesn't take a majority to effect change.

It just takes a politically active, focused minority. Even a tiny minority.

Sometimes it just takes a few people with computers bombarding social media with thousands of fake folks intimidating CEO's with threats of boycott.

You've made it very clear:
Immanuel Can wrote: Sat Mar 13, 2021 2:51 pm But you're now out of step with the "cancel culture" of the Left.

So nobody suggested that whiney little left wing busy bodies have a monopoly on being censorious, but whiney little left wing busy bodies have a monopoly on being censorious. You are a mess, Immanuel Can, you need to be honest with yourself, because you can't keep up with your own lies.

Well, here's staunch Leftist Bill Maher, certainly no friend of mine, proving you wrong yet again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmXTUSP9a9M

But you're getting used to be wrong by now, I can see.

What do you think that proves? What did he say that contradicts anything that I have said, rather than anything your right wing echo chamber says I said?

That even Lefties more lunatic than most know darn well that "cancel culture" is a thing. So it's certainly not the "right wing" talking point you would like to convince yourself it is.

I don't suppose it will ever sink in, but here it is again:
tillingborn wrote: Sun Mar 14, 2021 10:30 amIf you look at the history of cancel culture; from the Catholic Index, the burning of witches, unions, music, books and films that have been banned, to suggest that whiney little left wing busy bodies have a monopoly on being censorious is to cancel reality. You are completely immersed in a right wing echo chamber that cancels anything it doesn't like - you are doing it right now - that little brain of yours is putting the lid on the previous paragraph and intends to carry on as if it never happened.
It doesn't matter how many times you insist otherwise, I have told you I know that cancel culture is a thing. That is not what your right wing brain parasite tells you I am saying, but it's there in black and white and if you had control of your own mind, you would see it.

Isn't that hilarious! :D You don't know me from a shoe box, and have no idea what I know or don't; but I summon to the testimony CNN, Bill Maher, and Andrew Cuomo, who all say they believe in "cancel culture"...and you won't. Classic.

You are a card, Tillie. A real prize. Well, you've entertained me, anyway, so that's something...

Dirty money is only dirty because the State says so.

Not completely. I include monies meant to buy votes/legislation. For example (and I have no evidence to offer here other than a gut feelin') I'm certain a significant amount of anti-drug legislation is under-the-table, behind-the-closed-door sponsored by drug cartels and gangs. Keepin' drugs illegal keeps the drugs expensive which means more profit for the cartels and banana govs, and more campaign financin' for bought legislators. Note that no matter how many anti-drug laws there are, the market for them never ceases, never diminishes. This is intentional, I think. The dirty money then is not what the State sez it is but is a function of the State itself.

Yeah, you should. But the other nonsense is just ad hominem twaddle, so I won't waste my time on it.

Yeah, you should.
The point is I said that the first time you mentioned cancel culture and you could not recognise it.
Immanuel Can wrote: Tue Mar 16, 2021 1:43 amBut the other nonsense is just ad hominem twaddle, so I won't waste my time on it.
I am simply describing your behaviour and trying to account for it. The 'brain parasite' is a metaphor, but you have been infected by a view of the world in which there are only two sides - 'us and them' is standard totalitarian tactics. You cannot have a sensible conversation about the BBC or NHS and instead start ranting about Venezuela or the USSR, even insisting that Adolf Hitler was a leftist. The irony is that this makes a lot of your arguments ad hominem - I can tell you to your face, three times at least, that I did not say the thing you attribute to me. I can point to the exact spot that shows quite clearly that I said the opposite of what you think I said; I can even tell you how you will process what I am telling you right now and why it is wrong, and still you will argue against the left wing loony you believe everyone outside your right wing bubble is. That is strawmannirg and ad hominem in one package. I don't care who you think you are in the real world, you cannot be taken seriously if you cannot deal with actual people, actual arguments and actual reality.

And I am simply not bothering. I don't find your "twist and stick" tactics interesting...or remotely relevant, either. So I'll spare myself the boredom of your company, I think.

I think that is a sort of ad hominem, Immanuel, to cite your own feelings as adequate reason for dismissing an opponent.Own goal.

Boredom can be arbitrary, B, but it also happens when there is a factual lack of content and relevance, which are empirical. And when that's the case, it's not ad hom.
