If the % of tax paid was lowered to a lower rate, there would be less poverty. Right?

Smart enough to use trade tactics, yes ... and without such,which we'd all resort to raping and pillaging, stealing, and even worse, we'd end up killing our own species just to survive. Seems to me the trade off is just a pretend screen to cover over our true nature. Seems like nothing has changed since the days of the dinosaurs. Even with the invention of a trade deal it seems that deal just triggers our opportunistic nature to get rich at the expense of making someone poor. And then that greed snowballs into the rich getting richer and the poor get poorer. What prevents war is trade and we are smart enough to recognize that fact.
Would you want to have to carry whatever you do for a living?
Imagine if you were a farmer. Can you carry all your wealth for trade, or is cash a lot easier?

Inventing money wasn't clever. Look at the state of the world today because of money...thats not clever at all.
