Their under-achievement resided in their commitments to glorifying and mystifying their own powers. No power can permanently rule history because the essence of history is change itself.

Sometimes there is time to reflect and sometimes no time for reflection. Therefore it's good to rehearse or revise principles while there is yet time to do so.

Climate change becomes more and more urgently in need of addressing by acting. In a relative world the more reason we bring to bear on the problem, the better. Reason in the form of empirical knowledge and judgement is the best hope we have now that the time has come to act and act fast.
Unlike the terror aftermath of the French Revolution we should not abandon reason at any stage of action. We are not battle-mad .

In the inevitable absence of objective reality we are doomed to make our own reality.
