To make it clear, I agree with Bill that President Obama's election was a revelation to America and the world with respect to the black males aspiration levels. Good. I also note the women republican and military man have led the way, Powell, Rice and Chao. Who'd have thought Bushy such a woolly feminist!?

According to biographer Taylor Branch, King's autopsy revealed that though only thirty-nine years old, he had the heart of a sixty-year-old man, perhaps a result of the stress of thirteen years in the civil rights movement.

I've been to the mountain top as well and found the promised land to be right here.

"I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

And you still talk about Obama and his blackness, despite him being as much white.

"I have a dream that one day the state of Alabama, whose governor's lips are presently dripping with the words of interposition and nullification, will be transformed into a situation where little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls and walk together as sisters and brothers."

You there yet?

Come to England, you'll see lots of little black children holding hands with white ones. Even more, you'll see lots of mixed-race kids, fastest growing minority in the country and will be the largest if trends continue.

The US has a very long way to go on this issue, despite having a black president.
Middle and Southern America is still heavily racist.
The fastest growing minority is the Hispanic catholics who do not restrict their child-bearing.

A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom.

Did you know I am an American citizen, BTW?
It does not take much to understand the trends in the US.
It's better in some ways living outside the US to understand it.
Living in the US is like not seeing the wood for the trees.
The converse is not true, though.
When I lived in the US I had no idea what was going on in the UK, because US news tends to think that it is the centre of the world.
It leads me to think that the average US citizen is the least informed about what is actually going on in the world.
