As Geoff Wade explains in his review of "The Ideology of the Aesthetic", it is not for the faint-hearted. Well, nor is his review.
Nevertheless, he did introduce me to a new word, concomitant. It seems that our present aesthetic sense is concomitant with capitalism. I buy that.

Steve Jobs of Apple had an instinct for innovation and business. He also had an ideological eye for aesthetics. He knew good design sold. His aesthetic eye was shaped by capitalism.

His aesthetic were what? Capitalistic, of course.[Andy] Warhol believed in fame and wealth: they were intrinsic to his aethetics.
