Western music is the most favored globally, from rock to classical. I think that is due to the fact that it is most aesthetically pleasing and engaging.
I think it is for aesthetic reason that Western sensibilities are dominating the world, because aesthetically western sensibilities are the most pleasing and admired, from clothing, to technology, to philosophy, to business practices, to literature, to music and to politics. That is why whenever people travel to foreign citied they find the same kind of merchandise, stores and buildings that inhabit the West. In all sophisticated cities one will find a Chanel or a McDonold's.

It has been noted that when things get bad, dancing and alcohol become prevalent. I would add that this is a syptom of people wishing to disengage from themselves.
The example of country music lyrics and pop/dance music and reality shows. Self becomes more an assertion of social ideals and 'pure' experience rather than reflective experience.
