Both things are equally part of the universe.
They are not natural categories , but models employed by humans to help them understand it.
When evidence demands, those theories will have to change - as long as there are humans smart enough to reconcile the appearances with an viable explanation.
But the experience has always been that each move to understand is further complicated with more complexity.
