Well, if you check the dates, it's probably because this happened before you joined the forum. Still, that picnic morphed into an article I wrote for the magazine which you can read here: https://philosophynow.org/issues/104/Ph ... d_Branches I'm always happy to talk about Pre-Socratics, if that's your bag.
That’ll teach me to skim-read to excess and miss the year it actually was.. though I’ve noticed that I’m not the first one to have done that in these forums.. and there are alternative Meetup groups that hold such events, so there is that.

Thanks for the link share.. added to ‘reading list’. I may have some discussion-points for you, afterwards.

Just to let you know that the London Philosophy Now Group is still going - but these days, its most frequent events are co-organised with Philosophy For All (pfalondon.org). These are the fortnightly Midnight Philosophy sessions, held on Zoom, hosted and introduced by Dr Anja Steinbauer. Tonight's session is on "Mind".

You can sign up for tonight's session here on the group's Meetup page:
https://www.meetup.com/london-philosoph ... 315649755/

Saying you will attend (which is free) will give you access to the link to the Zoom meeting. The session starts at midnight (UK time)n and lasts an hour.

It sounds interesting. My most intense class in college was "Philosophy of Mind". I "went to town" in it and enjoyed it the most of any class I ever took. Do I have to join the meetup group to attend? And if I do, can a person in Orlando, Florida, USA join the London meetup group?

Hi Gary, first of all, I have to admit - I got that wrong. Tonight's session is not on "Mind" - that one will be in two weeks from now. Tonight's session will be on "Boundaries".

Yes, absolutely you can come. You don't have to be in London, and these days the Midnight Philosophy sessions have participants from all around the world including Australia, the USA and Malaysia. You do have to join the Meetup group, but that is free.

Aw shucks, why did the topic change suddenly? It said "mind" at first. Did my asking if I could join cause you all to change the topic to something I wouldn't find as enjoyable?

I joined and added a quick "bio" blurb. I'm ready and excited to discuss boundaries tonight and how they apply to me and others.

 It was just a misunderstanding by me. A pity, as I liked that photo of a bat that I posted (briefly) on the event's page on Meetup. I wondered if people would get that! Ah well, found a photo of a boundary to replace it.

The Mind one will still take place, but in 2 weeks from now on 29th Oct.

Nice meeting, nice people. Video gives me a sense of being in front of real people, and I'm less aggressively argumentative.

Although I probably shouldn't be aggressively argumentative under any circumstances. I need to work on that more. That's generally why I use my real name on almost every web forum I visit. I figure it keeps me more honest and accountable than not doing so. Typing behind a made-up screen name seems more freeing, but perhaps too much so.

Gary - many thanks for taking part in the Midnight Philosophy session. That was fun.

"Boundaries" turned out to be quite a philosophically interesting topic in a number of ways. I now think the most philosophically interesting types of boundaries are probably social ones - as you suggested.
