At this moment, Rodrigo y Gabriela. Good place to start: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyOSXRCJlIg
My daughter kicked me off into a Flamenco/Mariarchi vibe, so some of this too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFAi7wMVN94
(On the off chance there are purists out there, yeah, I know it's like putting chorizo into paella, but if it feels good, do it!)
What music are you listening to?

Compared to What?
Ray Charles and Leela James

[Verse 2]
Slaughterhouse is killin' hogs
Twisted children are killin' frogs
Poor dumb rednecks rollin' logs
Tired old ladies kissin' dogs
I hate the human but I love that stinking mutt
I can't use it now
Tryin' to make it real, compared to what?
Leela James … Wow!

Watch Colucci slay this Tool song, you guys.

You will notice she doesn’t keep her hats real low like this anymore. Higher hats are typical of metal drummers, and I've yet to understand why. Why would you reach way the f*** up to the hats from the snare drum like that? The only reason i can think would be to avoid clacking the sticks together when you're banging it out on the snare and hats at the same time. But then why would you be raising your snare drum stick any higher than about four inches from the snare drum head, anyway?
Ah. I forgot. In the days of big hair, drummers were expected to play the drums like barbarians and go to war with their drum sets.
There's this one metal drummer dude i saw in one of those old home video practice recordings who had his hats almost as high as his crash cymbal. I wanna say it was Sepultura, but i can't remember now. Bro had the combat wrist bands and the sleeveless t-shirt and everything. This was when drummers were real and not pansy asses.
