Must all life come to an end?

How does science work? And what's all this about quantum mechanics?

Must all life come to an end?

Post by Gary Childress »

Are we humans a malicious mutation? Is there no way to stop the inevitable destruction of our planetary habitat from the unsustainable and relentless growth of the human species? Is there any reason for optimism over the chances of long-term survival for our species?

I believe we are doomed to self-destruction, and I see no reason to believe otherwise.

Even if it were the case that we weren't headed for self-destruction, then our ultimate fate is still futile. According to most speculation based on current physics, the universe itself will eventually become uninhabitable for living beings in one way or another. Death and extinction seem final and unavoidable. And most of us have no instinctual choice but to dread their inevitable arrival.

There is a part after birth and before death.

That's the important bit.

True. But most of us still dread the inevitable when we think about it. That's a constant also.

not exactly ethics, but live your life as if you had to do it all over again

curse of Sisyphus or eternal recurrence

deja vu

The good news about life and death is that you only have to do them once.

Or you don't "do" death even once. Only the living have experiences. The dead don't "do" anything.

Imp will chime in about the dead decomposing?
