Precisely, just as we do with mathematics.Immanuel Can wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2026 5:08 pm Nobody "has difficulty" with the idea of infinity here. But we want to do so with logical and mathematical accuracy, not with errors.
An infinite number of prerequisites means that there is no exhausting the prerequisites. Thus, the prerequisites are never fulfilled. It's called the "infinite regress" problem. And infinity is part of the demonstration.
Yeah, sorry...there is. There's no such thing as an infinite regress of causes, because logically and mathematically, such a chain cannot ever start. It eternally lacks the prerequisite to begin.
So you could not possibly exist. Nor could the universe.YES in the absence of a First Cause would mean "infinite regression". So?
IC, you just do not understand formal mathematics of the last ~150 years.Immanuel Can wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2026 8:13 pmYeah, sorry...there is. Well, somebody certainly doesn't.MikeNovack wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2026 9:01 pmIC, you just do not understand formal mathematics of the last ~150 years.Immanuel Can wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2026 8:13 pmYeah, sorry...there is. You are so far from the point, I don't know what to say. It's not "integers," but causal chains that are the issue. I showed you the mathematical evidence, I showed you the empirical confirmation...I even pointed out how your own ancestors illustrate the point, and you still didn't get it.Do you REALLY mean to say "the Integers do not exist"
You don't understand Zeno's paradox.Immanuel Can wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2026 9:11 pm

Or didn't want to. I can't know which it is.
But I've done what I can for you. I can think of no other ways to explain this simple fact. You'll have to continue as you are, I suppose.
Yeah, I do: and it has nothing to do with the argument.MikeNovack wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2026 11:44 pmYou don't understand Zeno's paradox.Immanuel Can wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2026 9:11 pm

The opposite: there is no "before," because "before prerequisites recede infinitely. Nothing starts the chain of prerequisites, so none are ever met.You think there NECESSARILY isn't enough "before", that you would run out of "before".
Well, somebody doesn't, I suppose. But there's no more that can be done with that.
You've missed the argument yet again.Let's lay that aside for a moment. You can think you derived First Cause and I think you needed/had to use an axiom for it, but either way, let's say you have First Cause, which you can call God.
Let's consider the attributes you think "God created the universe" (THIS universe) lets you derive.
Consider the first pair. Do you believe you can derive them from (just) God created the (this) universe.
