The Republicans were against slavery when Lincoln was president.
Getting the thirteenth amendment passed was like pulling teeth, because of the Democrats.

Maybe you heard.
There was a civil war.
Hundreds of thousands of Americans died, because the Democrats wanted their slaves.

The Republicans are still against slavery, just like in Lincoln's day.
